If you use the lined comp. books for English and studied dictation do you find that one book for each subject is enough for the entire school year? Do you have your child write on one side of each sheet?? I find that writing on the front and back of a sheet in a bound book like that leads to a real mess (pencil transfers from one page to the next). Originally I thought I'd use loose leaf paper but I'm realizing that the bound books will be simpler for DS to keep track of.

We get one book for each.

The dc write on just one side of the page to begin with (the right side). Then, when they've been through the whole composition book, they go back to the front and start writing on the back sides of the paper (the left side). I didn't want them to be able to see their previous dictation passage as it would be too tempting to look at for help, so that is why we did it this way.

There are many ways you could do this though, so if you'd rather they only ever wrote on one side of the paper, 2 composition books for each area would be more than enough to get through the whole year.
