I'm planning on doing LHTH this fall with my 3yo (will be 4 a couple months after we start); I bought LHTH a few years ago and did some of it with my older son, so I have a copy of Playtime Devotions. I'm trying to decide if I should get Big Thoughts as well and see which one we like better. We also have ABC Bible Verses but I don't know if he will be ready for that yet. So I guess I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on these 3 devotionals. TIA

I have the three books you mentioned.

Looking them over, it seems to me that Playtime Devotions is sweet, simple and good for introductory learning about God and the bible. Perfect for the youngest of kiddos.

I would say that Big thoughts For Little People might be "one step" above Playtime Devotions comprehension-wise. Very cute and simple passages with very purposeful lessons to teach about right and wrong and Godly character. After the reading that involves studying the illustrations (very sweet and colorful), there are some simple questions to answer. This one is my favorite and my 4 year old daughter requests to read it. I have referred to the lessons in this book many times when I need to remind my daughter about handling situations that come up daily (especially the one about doing things cheerfully, without complaining!! ) I definately recommend this one!

My ABC Bible Verses seems to be perfect for the little ones that are on the upper end of the age range, perhaps four or five years of age. The stories are simple but a bit lengthier. My daughter really likes this one as well.

I agree with Candice . I also wanted to add that with my dd, even though she is not yet 3, she much prefers Big Thoughts. She really does not like fingerplays or little rhyming diddies found in Playtime. But she does enjoy the short lesson and activities of searching for the lady bugs on each page in Big Thoughts. She is not old enough to learn the Bible verses but the letter at the beginning of each lesson helps to give practice to letter and sound recognition. I realize she is the exception to the rule, but thought it worth mentioning just incase this would be an issue for you.

I don't have the other two, but my 4yo dd loved Playtime Devotions. She still sings the simple mealtime blessing she learned in Playtime Devotions at every meal.

I think Candice's assessment is right on! I have all of them, and they all work great - so you can't go wrong!

thanks for posting this. I will be doing Little Hands with a 2 yo and a 4yo. The input really helps me decide.
