Edit: I noticed the ER books are listed in Bigger, so I guess we could do ER books with Beyond and Bigger.
Another ER question?
Another ER question?
I am just thinking ahead. I was wondering if anyone has ever done 2 years of the ER books. I noticed the supplemental titles. Would it make any difference to do a second year of ER books rather than going into DITHOR 2/3. Are those books more advanced reading than the ER books?

Re: Another ER question?
I think the supplemental books are on the same level as whatever ER book you are reading that week. I guess you could stretch it out to two years by doing the ER reading one week and then the supplemental book the next. We've been checking out the supplemental books from the library and just reading them alongside the ER book for each unit.
Another idea that I've heard on these boards is to finish the ER books and then to read the DITHOR level 2 book pack, but not do DITHOR with them. Then the next year start DITHOR 2/3 using other level 2 books from Carrie's list or using the level 3 book pack.

I like the idea about doing the DITHOR level 2 books without doing DITHOR of they aren't quite ready for that. The DITHOR book pack webpage also gives the exact reading level so you could read them in order if difficulty.

Re: Another ER question?
Thanks, Stephanie and Tamara. I guess my concern is the reading levels. I'll see how well dd is reading this fall and decide which route to take. There are so many interesting choices.

Re: Another ER question?
I think you could definitely add the supplemental titles to your reading and stretch it out to give dd time to grow into it. If this takes a full 2 years, that would be just fine. If you see she is ready for a quicker pace, then you can always adjust to doing just the ERS for "school" and using the supplemental titles for free reading.

Re: Another ER question?
Thanks, Julie. I'm going to give the ER books a try in August when we begin Beyond. In the meantime, I will have dd read from the readers I have and other 'easier' books to help boost her confidence. She still needs phonics, but I also think she needs to have an opportunity to read stories that are more exciting for her.
I want to make sure I am not holding her back. We'll see how it goes.
