Add'l Read-Aloud Selections in the Appendix?

I have not yet purchased HOD, though I am planning on several guides beginning in July/August ... BHFHG, LHFHG, and LHTH. :D

My question is about what I've read in the intro for each guide with reference to the Appendix including additional read-aloud selections. Are these selections titles that that my DD could read independently and within the unit of our study ... say weekly? I like to have a basket of books that include history and science books for her to look through and read throughout the week that tie into what we are studying. Would the books in the Appendix be for this purpose, or are they mainly chapter books that would serve us better as read-alouds, such as those that we select for storytime?

Thank you for helping me better understand ... just when I feel ready to order the curriculum another question pops up.

There are additional read aloud suggestions, as well as additional Emerging Reader's Set options. I think you would easily be able to find some good books for him to read from those two resources! We certainly have. The read aloud suggestions will be a higher reading level than the ERS suggestions, so just go with whatever books he is can read well on his own and you'll have your book basket filled. :D Another great resource for choosing books for free reading is the Drawn into the Heart of Reading "Sample Book Ideas List", which comes in any of the DITHOR packages or may be purchased alone for $5. HTH! :D

Julie, thank you so much for replying. I didn't realize I could order the list separately ... that's great since I won't be ordering DITHOR in full until later in her second grade year.

Thank you for your help! :D
