Organizing Question

Well, I received my first HOD box! Woohoo! I can't wait until July to begin our new curriculum. :)

I have 3 guides/programs....

LHTH
Beyond
Preparing

I am not so much worried about LHTH, but I was wondering if you all label/color code somehow the books by curriculum guide. Even with keeping them separated on a shelf/in a basket I know they may get intermixed. That is my reality. LOL So, does anyone have thoughts, suggestions, experience with labeling?

Thanks.
Deb

I asked a similar question last year. Here is the thread with the responses I got. And here is a recent post of mine with pics of my color labels. The only thing I found was that the labels I used didn't stick really well, especially on the wider spines. So I covered each label with a square of clear contact paper and that did the trick! HTH! :)

I don't know if this was discussed in the previous organization thread or not, but I have used magazine file holders to help us organize our school books. Since my daughter is using Bigger at half speed we have the books organized into "every day", "day 1" and "day 2". Math books, current ER book, current read aloud book, Hymns and cursive all go into "everyday". History, spelling and copywork go into "day 1". R&S Language arts, science and Explode the Code go into "day 2". My son in LHFHG is also doing half speed. He really wanted to have 2 boxes like his sister, so we divided his books up like that as well and added a few workbooks so he could do independent work like his sister too. So everday when it's school time they grab the box they need and bring it to their school spot, my daughter to the dinning room table to do her independent work (she brings then into the living room when it's time for us to work together), and my son to the living room for us to work together. When they are done with the book they need it goes back into the box. Before the boxes go back to the shelf, all books have been in put back into the corresponding days box. It works really well for us.

These are the types of magazine files I use (only not those colors!). http://www.amazon.com/Hampton-Direct-Co ... pd_sim_e_5 All our books fit in them perfectly except for my teacher manuals and that is because I have the spines cut from them and in page protectors and in a 3-ring binder (sorry Carrie, I know you pay extra to have the lay flat bindings on them.....now if only they came with page protectors to keep coffee and other marks off the pages  ....).

I have all of our books in a lidded box for each program. If it is used in that program, it goes in the box. I have bought some books in duplicate when I see them at the library sales and things so I can have one in the box and still have one on shelves available for my other kids to reread sometime. The lidded boxes sit under each child's desk/table so when they need a book it is right there for them. When we are done with a program for the year, it stores easily and is ready for later use.
