How will I know that she is ready for CtC full speed?

Post by striving2Bprov31 » Tue Feb 22, 2011 4:34 pm

As I've mentioned before, my daughter backed down to CtC half speed a few weeks ago. It has been a very positive change. I am wondering--how will I be able to tell that she is ready for full speed with the plans? I don't want to go back to struggling along everyday. I am fine with doing half speed as long as is needed.

I am especially anxious to get Carrie and Julie's feedback on this matter!
Thank you!

Good question! :D I will say that when I have done half-speed with my dc, I feel like I can tell when they are ready to switch to full-speed when they are quite easily completing their half-speed day, and when it becomes obvious they are finishing quickly and they need more. When I feel the need to begin adding some things to their day, or when they ask to have more of something in their day (usually they are wanting more of the books in HOD  ), then we give full-speed a shot. With Riley I went half-speed with Bigger Hearts last year for around 12 weeks or so, so we started this school year on about Unit 7. I thought for sure he'd be ready for full-speed. We tried it. It was still too much. He could do it all, but it was too hard to get him to do it. He actually loves to take his time with creative, art type projects, and this made the day full-speed too long for him and too frustrating for me as I was herding him along. So, back to half- speed. About Unit 15 or so I believe, he was asking for science every day, and reading history every day, and he wanted to do dictation every day and math too, and as I was contemplating adding some things to his day because he was finishing his half-speed so early, I realized perhaps we should give full-speed a try again. We did, and it was a good fit. :D So, I guess I would say to watch for signs such as that, and then give full-speed a try to see how it goes. I think you will know then. HTH! :D
