Thinking through High School History

Post by deltagal » Mon Feb 21, 2011 7:29 pm

I've had some time to think this through and I'm leaning toward beginning RTR next fall with my son for his Freshman History. He will complete CTC this summer. If I do this, would I count RTR as a World History course, even though it's only a portion of World History? Still trying to sort this all out...

Where I live there is no designation as to what constitutes world history. So, in my state, you could.

I have the same thing where there are not designated qualifications. If you look on the HSLDA site there is statement that if something is done in eighth grade and it is high school level you can count it. You may then want to do your transcript as a subject adding dates for credit or just as a subject transcript depending on what you need for where you are headed. It may be state dependent if your state disqualifies that directly. I think there are other ways to get that done as well if you are in a state that will not allow you to combine CTC and RTR since CTC was in 8th grade. One idea might be to cover the ancient part in Bible with some side reading connecting it as part of your beef up. Another might be to in addition or perhaps instead of focus more on the world history of the later period as part of your beef up in the Rev to Rev and the next guide to come. in this you might give 1/2 or 3/4 credit for RTR depending on what you add to it and then pick up 1/4 to 1/2 credit along the way. You can earn more than 1 credit in history in a year and you can get total credit in one area of history over more than one year no matter how you do your transcripts. At least that is my understanding to this point.

Anyway those are just some ideas I have thought of along the way for my own situation just mapping out different options. :D Hope that helps to get you thinking. I think History a credit that definitely you can think outside the box and get your credits. Truly when you look at things our children are going to come out with a much better understanding of history than they would at ps and even maybe private. Even if you are going for a university or scholarship there are ways to validate. One thing we are doing in terms of that is to CLEP world history. We are starting with the first guide and then after we finish more HOD will take the second. I am thinking though CLEPing will be something we do a lot of in our high school. It was something we were going to do no matter what curriculum we used in a sense to validate some of our hsing or just hsing in general. This is just the first one I thought we could work on along the way. And one thing I just found that though a certain university may not accept CLEPing they tend to if a community college or JC did along the way because it becomes part of the transcript. I did first look at the AP test for world history and I found it so tremendously full of secular world view and biased in secular psychology that I did not even want my dd to learn it all. Just did not want all that stuff in her head no matter what curriculum we used we would not be taking that test for us. Anyway if that is too much information or makes your head spin stick with the first paragraph. Just thought I would put it out there if you had thought that far. Hope something here helps a bit. :D
