Question about R&S 2 and 3
Question about R&S 2 and 3
I have a question...should I be doing only 1 lesson per day with my sons in the R&S 2 and 3? Or am I supposed to be doing 2 lessons per day? We do it mostly orally, and it seems to be so quick and easy. Is that pretty normal?

Re: Question about R&S 2 and 3
In Bigger, R&S2 is scheduled at a pace of one lesson per day. It is quick and easy only taking about 10 minutes per lesson. With R&S3 at one lesson per day it still doesn't take us more than 15 minutes per day.

Re: Question about R&S 2 and 3
You may want to have dc write a few sentences/answers each day, as this increases their writing stamina and is good prep for R & S 3 and 4. We do most of it orally but save around 3 sentences/answers for ds to write. I know from having done this with my oldest back when he did R & S 2, it is good prep for what is to come.
And you bet, a lesson a day is just fine!
I'd not worry about R & S being too light - wait for 4 on up - the dc are ready for it then, but it's excellent and extremely thorough - I wouldn't rush to it.

Re: Question about R&S 2 and 3
Thank you, ladies. So, should I have my 10 year old son write down all the exercises or do some of them orally with him too? I have been going through about half of them orally and them having him write down the other half or so. Thanks!

Re: Question about R&S 2 and 3
Mine two dc are not quite 9, but we do about 2/3 or so orally or sometimes part of that on the white board. Then we finish usually with the last part written. It will be not more than 5 sentences usually. I really try to keep the writing minimal enough that we can finish our grammar within 15 minutes. At the start of the year, it was running a bit longer because my dc were still slower at writing and we were just beginning diagramming sentences. Now we have no problems at all making it through the lesson in 10 to 15 minutes doing about 2/3 of it orally and saving just a little to write at the end. I feel like if your son is retaining the information well by doing 1/2 of it orally, then I would continue that. It seems like plenty of writing to me just writing 1/3 or so of the lesson.

Re: Question about R&S 2 and 3
I agree - just some writing is good! Especially diagramming exercises. I never have the boys do more than about 1/3 of it written. Usually a portion of 1 section, or a few from a few sections, but it results in about 3 things for my 8 yo to write, and about 5 things for my 11 yo to write. I thought from your original post that you were thinking it was too easy for your 10 yo, so I thought making sure to have him write a portion would be good all around. But if you are already having him do so, then it sounds like everything is going great!
If 3 is a tad easy, 4 will not be, so just to let you know that it picks up and keeps doing so from 4 on up.
