If you start with LHFHG in K and do a guide a year . . .

then what do you do for 8th grade? I'm thinking that I might have more schedule flex if I don't need to be concerned about my children finishing the 4 year history cycle until end of 8th!! I just read a short thread about the geography guide and if I'm understanding everything properly then that guide will be appropriate for 9th grade.

If this is all true then that is VERY good news. Very good indeed. It helps my planning endeavors tremendously. :D :D I can slow my middlers down and relax with the schedule awhile. It means that I could use LHFHG for 1st grade and still be on track to complete all of the HOD guides through Modern times, right?

If your start with LHFHG for K and do a guide per year, your child would do the geography guide for 8th. Having been through all the previous guides successfully will have prepared your child for the geography guide. If you did want to slow down to half-speed somewhere along the way to save the geography guide for 9th, you could do that, but if your child goes along smoothly, it wouldn't be necessary. It would just be a matter of preference :) Or, you could just use LHFHG for 1st instead and then do one a year through 9th grade.

We started LHFHG for K but we're taking longer for Bigger (not necessarily planned, life has just happened) so it looks like we may end up doing the geography guide in 9th grade after all. Or not. We do normally school year 'round, so you just never know. :wink: I think it's just nice that so much room is built in and so many ways to customize it to fit your own individual family. :D

Ditto to this! :D It works either way, for ninth or eighth. I am going to be doing it for 8th with my oldest, but maybe for 9th with my middle or youngest. Either way, I will award high school credit for it, as it is high school credit worthy. :wink:

I'm interested in this, wondering how long the high school history cycle is. Is it three or four years? I suppose it depends what curriculum you use, but what is required for High School credit? If we hit the geography guide for 9th, will that crunch the remaining history (have to get a four year cycle into three)? Does the geography guide have history? (I understand they are somewhat inseparable, but would it be part of the h.s. cycle?)

This is so far away for me, I'm clueless.

Thanks,
Julie

I have not taught high school yet, so I won't comment on it, but these excellent posts written by Carrie should help: :D

I'm confused. It looks like the existing guides only go through 5th grade if you do a guide a year. How does it stretch to 8th? Are you referring to future guides? Sorry, I'm a newbie and easily confused. :roll:
Thanks! :D

Here is a list of the current guides and future guides scheduled, their abbreviations, and the grades for which they are often used.

Preschool-K LIttle Hands to Heaven {LHTH}
K or 1st grade Little Hearts for His Glory {LHFHG}
1st or 2nd grade Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory {BLHFHG}
2nd or 3rd grade Bigger Hearts for His Glory {BHFHG)
3rd or 4th grade Preparing Hearts for His Glory {PHFHG}
4th or 5th grade Hearts for Him Through Time-Creation to Christ (CTC}
5th or 6th grade Hearts for Him Through Time-Resurrection to Reformation {RTR}
6th or 7th grade Hearts for Him Through Time-Revival to Revolution {RevTRev} (being released in August this year-available for pre-order soon)
7th or 8th grade Hearts for Him Through Time-Modern Times (to be released next year-2012)
8th or 9th grade Geography guide (to be released in 2013)

Note that this is just the grades that some folks use these and they can be used in different grades. From Bigger up, extensions are available to extend the learning for older children. Hopefully this will be helpful to new folks. :D

Thanks Patty! My visual mind only noticed the book covers on the home page with the existing guides. :o
Guess who's not detail-oriented!!! :lol:
This is why I need Carrie. :D
All the best,
