HUUUGGEEEE Update, which means we'll HS next year for sure

Hi everybody, I've been on the forum for a couple of months, since we, like 1blessedmom, realized that HOD would neatly and conveniently address our desire to pursue a CM curriculum and still have time to pursue our other interests, like AWANA, handicrafts, and outdoor/nature studies!

Currently, I'm teaching HS English and Math at a Christian school in Alaska, but as this is my first year back to work in eight years, it has been MUCH more challenging than I thought to pour myself both into my family and into my students. My kids are getting the last of me, and my DH is getting almost nil. Thank God he is such a gracious and supportive man, and allowed me to take this year to teach other people's children to see that I indeed am completely committed to providing the kind of education that we think God wants us to.

I told my principal this week that I would not be back next year, except to sub here and there and to complete their accreditation application (which I can do at night, thanks to the fact that HOD's plans are pre-written). She was SOOOOO supportive and said I was doing the right thing. (I still have a bit of "fear of man" issues. I know it doesn't matter necessarily what she thinks, in one sense, but I want to make people happy, lol! Anyway, it was an encouragement to hear that she went through the same thing when her kids were little.)

It was funny, she was like, "if homeschooling doesn't work for you, we'll take your DD in a heartbeat!" LOL! She did homeschool one year herself.

Anywho, the great thing is that we are going ahead with HOD - we have LHTH now that we are doing here and there, along with other workbooks and readers we had purchased. DD has already done all the letters in her school, so I'm more focused on Bible, art, music, and science exploration from LHTH.

Then, next year, we'll do LHFHG at whatever pace we feel is best for our family. I got "Teaching Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" for phonics. I just can't tell you the peace and excitement we have at beginning this process with our family!!! :) Thank you, Carrie! I'm looking forward to learning with all of you!!!
