Do the plans for CTC use both volumes of Write with the Best? I saw that you could use both volumes in one year for the older children.

You only use Volume 1. You do Write with the Best 2x's a week and Rod and Staff Grammar 2x's a week to balance out the amount of writing with what is in the rest of the guide.

So would doing both in one year by doing it 4x a week be appropriate for a high schooler? We are doing CTC for 9th with beefing up and I was wondering about how to beef up this very area.

You could definitely do this, moving through WWTB Vol. 1 twice as quickly with your high schooler, by following the HOD plans but doing it 4 days instead of 2 days. Then, when you finish Vol.1 halfway through the year, you could finish out the year with WWTB Vol. 2. The only thing is HOD may include WWTB Vol. 2 in a later guide. However, going through it again years later would probably be fine. Otherwise, another option for high school would be to double time it through WWTB Vol. 1, and then the second half of the year do "Igniting Your Writing II". The way "Igniting Your Writing II" is written in sections, you could just get as far as you get. IYW II has clear directions and little to no prep, so that would be an excellent alternate option to consider for beefing up writing for high school in a way that wouldn't have you using a resource HOD may write in a later guide. Two good options - you'll know best which you prefer!

I so appreciate that advice. I'm definitely going to double time Write with the Best. I think I might as well do the IYW II just in case HOD uses the WWTB Vol. 2 later. It sure couldn't hurt. I hadn't heard of that other one. I'm so ready to get started. I'll be home next Wednesday and all of my lovely boxes from HOD should be there and we'll start the next week. Lord willing, of course.
