In Little Hearts, I'm just curious what is expected... When it says do pages 4-5 of a book, does that mean you do everything on those pages including activities? Like in Little Pilgrims today (day 2), we wrote out answers to the questions and added to our timeline we already have going. I assume we are to do all the activities like that as long as it's on the page number specified to do that day? What about math, I'm not sure what set cards they are talking about? Do I make those? Or skip it since there are hands on things in the teachers book? Just wondering when we are supposed to do the stuff in the other books or when / if the teachers manual activities are there instead? Make sense? I realize I can do whatever I want, lol, just wondering what the intent is. Thanks!

We just did the teacher guide activities. I would glance at the ones in Little Pilgrims or the science book and maybe did one occasionally, but not often. Now my ds was 4.5 when we started, so I might have added more if he was closer to 7, but the HOD activities were enough for us. HTH

My ds did LHFHG last year. We mainly stuck with what was in the HOD guide as that is plenty of fun! However, for Little Pilgrims we did make a timeline that was suggested at the end of chapter 1 (I think). It was fun to add to throughout the year. It helped him see where everything "fit." We taped the pictures around the top of our school room - my ds would draw the pictures based on the ones from the timeline pictured in the chapters. We didn't make pictures for every event, only the main ones.

Also, at the end of the chapters, I would ask him to fill in the blanks orally - mainly just to make sure he's remembering what we've talked about the past few days/weeks. We are doing it this year with the history books in Beyond. That's just the teacher in me wanting to make sure he's "getting it!"

We have also done just what is written in the guides (for History & Science... but, definitely ask the questions if they are at the end of a reading- for example, the Family Time Bible & History Stories for Children books), & have loved it this way! Math is a bit different, however, as we follow the directions at the bottom ("Before Using this Page" & "Using this Page"), unless Carrie notes to skip that for the day... this is along with the hands of activities written in the guide! We just started last month and I just assumed we were supposed to do what was in the book assigned. We do the written work in pilgrims. I must have missed the timeline...?

Just thought I would share...

I never did anything at all except what was in the guide and we loved every moment with LHFHG. She still remembers quite a lot and we did it a while ago. I don't think I ever asked her the discussion questions or anything. In fact, I'm pretty positive I didn't. We didn't do the timeline either. I think you can definitely do it either way. If you want the additional work, go for it! Otherwise, I think you're just fine sticking to the guide. We're going to start LHFHG again when my 2 younger ones are 4.5 and 6.5 and again I'm just going to do what's in the guide without anything else. I think it works great as is.

I am doing LHFHG with ds 5. Just as planned! If there are questions in the books like in History for Little Pilgrims and in "101 Fav. Stories from the Bible " I ask him and we discuss briefly if need be. I decided not to do the time line this time around, since we will be doing plenty of time lines in the guides to come. (I did it with my older ds a few years ago). I agree with pp that if my son was at the 7yr range that I would probably add a little more.
For math and everything else, I just follow right with what Carrie recommends as it prepares the kiddo's for the guides to follow!

We too did only what HOD planned right within the LHFHG plans. While you can do extra, we really liked opting not to, as the balance of work within a day is kept so consistent within the HOD guide. I remember doing a few of the activities that were in the history book that weren't planned in the LHFHG guide and regretting it, as they just seemed to draw out the day too much for my ds, and then we ended up rushing through what was left of the LHFHG's plans and not enjoying them as we usually did. Keeping the beautiful balance HOD has written within the guides intact has become more and more important for me as my dc age, and as I have more things to teach. It makes the days have a predictable amount of work - for me, and for the dc - which makes our days very predictably happy and manageable. However, you may always add something if you really want to - it's just not necessary.

Could you share which Unit, Day of LHFHG you are asking about, and then I'd be glad to check my guide and answer this! In general though, for hands-on, we just do what's in the LHFHG's box of math plans.

Oh, it was day 1 of Singapore LHFHG, but I was just not sure in general what the intention was - to do everything in the other books, or only whats in the teachers guide. Thanks for all the replies.
