So, my guy fits well in LHFHG, but he's beyond earlybird math concepts. I like the idea of her hands on activities though. So, should I get Beyond just so I can have her instructions for that? If I do, then what about for the next year in Beyond. My 8.5 year old is the opposite. She places in Bigger, but her math skills are not even as good as her brother who is in LHFHG. I know she couldn't do book 2 yet. What should I do?

Yes, I would buy the Beyond guide for the math activities for Singapore 1A & 1B if you can afford to do it. My son was the same way in LHFHG (fit everything else but the math, too). I used Singapore 1A on my own, but was too new to know to buy Beyond's guide until halfway through the year. Now that my son is doing Beyond this year, we're using the Bigger guide for the math activities. It's not been a problem at all.

I concur, that getting the Beyond guide is worthwhile. You'll be all set for the following year already having your guide too. We did this too. When my dc where doing LHFHG, we were using Beyond for the hands on math and did Singapore 1A and 1B. While we were doing Beyond, we were using Bigger for the hands on activities for 2A and 2B. This year we are in 3A and 3B and there are no hands on activities from now on, so we didn't need an extra guide.

It sounds like your dd might be ready to start 1A with your son. So you could get Beyond and do the hands on activities with both of them starting them both with Singapore 1A.

Thanks you two. I thought that would be the case, but I didn't want to go crazy. I'm ending up getting almost every guide. . I think you are right, I'll use it for both of them. We are using another math right now, but it's not that great. Over all of my years of homeschooling I've tried about every math program. I've never tried Singapore though. I guess I could save some money and just keep what we have, but you all make it sound so great it's hard to resist.

Once dc get to 3A, they are past needing the type of learning the hands-on activities provide. At 3A, the hands-on activities stop, and HOD just plans out the Singapore Textbook/Workbook each day, and several math levels are included in every HOD guide. So,I mention all this just to reassure you that this is the only year you'll need to buy different HOD guides like that. And it's worth it for the HOD hands-on activities. I have 2 sons who are math marvels due to Singapore - they weren't math wizards to begin with - just average Joe's, but Singapore is working wonders for them - I am truly amazed at its results.
