CTC HELP
CTC HELP
So we just started CTC on Friday, with my 8th grade daughter. I was wondering for the readings should I be reading to her or is it ok for her to read on her own.

Re: CTC HELP
Anything in an Independent box in the guide (marked by the letter "I") would be for the student to read and do independently. Anything marked with "T" is teacher-directed. Boxes marked "S" are semi-independent, meaning the student may need some direction or assistance from you. Hope that helps!

Also, if you are using the "Extensions" books, (in place of or in addition to the "Storytime" box), the student reads those books independently and narrates to you.

Re: CTC HELP
When we did CTC last year, I looked at the first week as a training time. I sat near my ds, and we went through each box's directions together, making sure he understood what was expected of him. If the boxes were "I", I explained he'd be using the guide and following the directions right out of the manual himself, and he'd also be doing all of what was in the box independently. He then did it, but I was nearby in case he had questions that first time around. I also explained the "S" boxes meant they were semi-independent, meaning I would start him off with the work by doing my teacher part or lightly overseeing it, and then he'd finish it out independently. Likewise, we talked about the "T" boxes, and how these were teacher-directed, meaning I'd be leading those as they were my teaching time.
At this age, dc need to take the guide and follow it as they would an instruction manual, and after a week of doing a routine order of the boxes, using the guide, checking each box off as he completed it, and handing in his work for me to check, he was ready to truly do the "I" boxes alone, the "S" boxes with a little help at the start and then finish it out alone, and the "T" boxes letting me be the teacher.
If your dd is new to HOD, she may need 2 weeks of more "hand-holding", but then she should do fine! Also, the "Introduction" is a HUGE help in HOD! I know in other curriculums, the introduction can be kind of a useless jargon of formality - not so with HOD! There is incredibly vital and useful information in both the "Introduction" and the "Appendix", so if you haven't had a chance to read through those yet, I highly recommend it! HTH!
