DITHOR resources (extras?)

Thanks to all who answered my other questions about placement.

Here is my next round of questions.

I will be getting Beyond Little Hearts and 2/3 DITHOR for my dd next fall. She'll be turning 7 at that time. The suggested book list seems like a good addition to the program.

In the store, I see Language Lessons for the Very Young and First Language Lessons listed as resources for her level of DITHOR. The introduction didn't seem to mention their use. Are they part of the curriculum? Are they scheduled in? How many people use them?

I also didn't see a description of the book project pack. Did I miss it? What is that like?

The suggested book list is wonderful! It is totally worth the 5$ you pay for it.

I choose not to use the first language lessons book. Carrie has LA lessons scheduled into Beyond. Many homeschool speakers are disinclined to school the very young children in structured grammar. Instead taking the view point of allowing children to hear and read lots of good Lit. Then when writing and sentence structure is taught they will have a natural skill built right in.

For example in banks they don't teach what counterfit money looks like rather they make employees handle lots and lots of real money. then they toss in a counterfit bill and the employee can spot it immediately because they know what real money really looks like. The philosphy is the same.

The book project is that the take home projects? that was really fun My dd and I had a lot of fun with that one. we made a Georgia O'keefe puppet and story book bin with pictures on the outside that retells the story, made a diarama with real grass and play mobile people. We didn't always do them but some times we did and the ones we did were really fun!

I do think the book list would be worth the cost.

I hadn't been planning grammar for our first grade year, and wasn't interested in FLL. From what I see about BLHFHG, I think that will be plenty of grammar, maybe even more than I had intended.

I have seen info about Queen's Language Lessons for the Young online. That one looks intriguing, but I don't want to overload my 7yo.

When I came across this curriculum, I was surprised to see the Queen's book suggested in the HOD store and wondered how it was incorporated.

This is just a stab in the dark, but I think the Queen's book is for those who are just using Drawn and not a full HOD program. If you're using the full program, you don't need it....although I have some of them and they are well done.

Go with what is on the package page for Beyond, not the page for Drawn.

To respond to the question about the Queen's books, and why they are on our site, I'll link to a thread about "Bigger...". The answer is similar to why you won't need the Queen's lessons for "Beyond...".

That is exactly what I needed to know! Except for the picture study, it seemed to duplicate what you are already providing in Beyond. It seems like Beyond has nearly everything I wanted for dd next year! I'm just thrilled not to be the one doing the planning... I get carried away.
