Taking the Leap!
Taking the Leap!
I've been on the message board here and other places asking tons of questions about Heart of Dakota, placement, etc. Thanks for all your help in trying to figure this all out! I actually decided to switch right now from our current program (that isn't working well for us). That's the beauty of homeschooling, right?
I ordered some books used from someone and am anxiously awaiting the mailman now! I'm relieved to have found something that sounds like it will be a better fit for us. We're going to be starting Little Hearts as soon as it arrives, although continuing with the phonics in our MFW 1st grade. I'll continue the MFW math also, which should last us about 1/2 way through Little Hearts, at which point we'll pick up with Singapore Math. If you're interested, I wrote out some of my thoughts on why we are switching here - http://onelittlewordsheknew.blogspot.co ... ching.html I think we may just break from Little Hearts for the summer, pick it back up in the fall, and move to Beyond next Jan. (Has anyone done that?) Thanks for the help!

Christy, I'm so excited for you!! I think you are really going to enjoy HOD!!
I also really appreciated reading your list on why you are choosing to switch on your blog- what helpful information for others! I also think that it's a great idea to start in on LHFHG this year, get as far as you would like & then pick back up next Fall- I know there have been many others that have done it that way, & it seems to work just great!
I look forward to hearing more about your journey!!
Blessings,
Jessica

Re: Taking the Leap!
Welcome! I read your blog post and agree with your summaries. Many are the same reasons we are using HOD now (after we did MFW with my older kids) My middle child is moving through the upper HOD courses and I just couldn't be happier. We are staying put!
I've done all the guides now with at least one child and still feeling the HOD LOVE. LOL!

Hello Christy,
Welcome to HOD, hope your family will be blessed as much as mine has with HOD
I have never stopped right in the middle of a guide for a long break, so far I have schooled year round, but I know many Mom's here on the board have and have just picked back up where they left off after Summer break. Sure they will chime in. I might to do that this year with LHFHG myself, time will tell
Succes!

Re: Taking the Leap!
mercymom,
I'm excited for you to begin LHFHG too!
As far as your question about stopping LHFHG in the middle and starting again in the fall, it should work fine.
With my third son in line, we did LHFHG half-speed for his first year (since he was on the young side for it), then we took a summer break, and we picked LHFHG back up again the following school year. It worked well for us, so if you desire to take the summer off, it should work fine for you too! We pray LHFHG may bless your family!
Thanks for sharing your enthusisasm.

Carrie

Great, thanks for the reply! Is it silly that I keep checking the tracking on my books and thinking about when they'll arrive? Lol! I'm hoping tomorrow or Sat so we can start Monday!
