The absolute BEST story time book we've read since we started HOD. We read all the books in LHFHG, many of the selections from Beyond just because we didn't want to miss anything, and are now on Historical Fiction in Bigger and I am just LOVING this book!!! We are about halfway through and it is just such a neat book. Even if you don't read it to your kids, I think all of us moms should read it too. The kind of education Elizabeth Ann gets in the book (both at school and at the Putney Farm) is exactly what I'm wanting for my children, at least so far in the book. I don't imagine it changes much. It is just such a beautiful, sweet book to read. All my kiddos, including the 5 yo boy and 2 you girl, love it! I just felt compelled to pass this on, and to say thank you to Carrie for choosing such great books that I might have missed. We have loved every one of them. Even Phillis Wheatley (for some reason I didn't think I would like it but we really, really enjoyed it). This just makes me more and more excited to read the other books that Carrie has chosen for us in the future.

"Understood Betsy" was extra special to our family as well, and I ended up reading it at just the right time, for it reminded me what kind of atmosphere of learning and living I deeply desire within our own home. Many of the things we are doing now - reading by the fireplace, playing card games together as a family, popping popcorn and just hanging out talking about the week together - are all Putney type living that we're loving this winter. I agree - it is one not to miss!
In Christ,
Julie

We read this book this year too and enjoyed it immensely. Even my "all-boy" boys loved it! This book shows such a transformation in a little girl as she gains more independence, and responsibility and confidence along with it!

The story was such a good reminder to me to allow my boys to take on more responsibility and harder tasks as they get older. Having all sisters from my growing up years, I can be prone to want to put-off some of that much-needed boyish independence, thinking they aren't responsible or old enough yet.
Blessings,
Carrie
