Horizons to Singapore
Horizons to Singapore
I was wondering if anyone had gone from using Horizons Math K to Singapore 1A and B. If so, how did your kids do? We are currently using Horizons Math K and really like it. But I am considering switching over to Singapore when we start Beyond next year. I was just wondering if there were any issues that you have noticed going from one program to another.
Thank you so much for your help.

Re: Horizons to Singapore
I am also thinking of switching. We enjoyed Horizons K, but I think Singapore would do a better job at really helping the child think mathematically...I think? My daughter LOVED doing her horizons math and she zoomed through her workbooks. I do not want her to struggle in the upcoming year. She is not understanding the depth of WHY she is doing the things she is doing yet. She is having a hard time remembering which coin is which, etc. Maybe I'm over reacting, because my 11yo also did really well with his math workbook when he was five, then...he lost everything he learned! It was my first homeschooling setback that I remember well!
)
Anyway, I'm also curious if there is anyone else who has switched from horizons out there...

Re: Horizons to Singapore
We switched and had no problems with the change. You are starting in 1A, so your dc will learn the Singapore way. It was smooth for us, and my dd is not strong in math. But Singapore has helped her allot and she is really excelling now.

Re: Horizons to Singapore
I am currently doing Singapore with my son. We haven't switched from another math program, but I thought I would offer my 2 cents....
I think that as young as the child is, it won't hurt a thing. The child is still in that foundation stage for math. I think if you are going to switch to Singapore it would better to do so in the near future than wait 3,4,5 years, and then kind of have a mess to deal with in the switching over process.
HTH!

Re: Horizons to Singapore
I agree the switch at this young age should not be difficult. The Beyond hands-on activities are wonderful at teaching the concept in a quick, fun, concrete way that makes doing the workbook as a follow-up easy.
