FLL or R&S until I get to next year?

My dd8 just completed Easy Grammar and Daily Grams 3. We need to finish out a curriculum (that I should not have chosen

) and I am in need of some advice about English. I've heard that FLL suggests using R&S after using FLL. My questions are, should I use FLL to finish out our year and then next year when we start HOD move to R&S or should I just start R&S now? Does anyone know where she'd place after completing Easy Grammar 3 in R&S or FLL? Thanks for any advice you can give.

I would guess she would be ready for Rod and Staff 2 right now. Which level of Heart of Dakota were you planning to use when you are done with what you have?

We are currently not using HOD

and also finishing up another curriculum, but come July we will be part of the HOD family!
My DD7 (first grade) is currently doing FLL1 and will finish it up at the end of first grade in May-ish. We will be doing Beyond come July and I plan on doing FLL2 and then right in to R&S English 2 as it is suggested in Bigger, which will be third grade for her.
Hope that helped a little.

Welcome to the HOD Board, and I am excited for you to begin HOD when able!

We have been impressed with R & S English. It is a solid Christian program, that teaches grammar for the purpose of writing well. It is typically a year advanced, and HOD has an overall goal of having dc finish R & S English 6 by the end of Grade 8 (R & S English 7 and 8 are high school credit worthy)

. If I were you, I'd just enjoy getting started with R & S English 2 now. R & S English 3 begins sentence diagramming, and we found the groundwork laid in R & S English 2 a help for dong 3 well. You could just do it a few times a week or daily. Which HOD guide are you thinking of doing? If it's BHFHG, R & S English 2 is scheduled within that guide. However, the placement chart is the best way to place dc, and grammar is one small part of it - you can choose the core guide based on the results of the placement chart and easily do a lesson a day of R & S English grammar if it's not in the guide dd placed best in. HTH, and I look forward to getting to know you here!
In Christ,
Julie

Thank you all so much

My dh and I are still trying to figure out what to do. DD8 tested very high at the end of last year in grammar, so we want to make sure we challenge her. I know Rod and Staff will supply a challenge, just not sure which level to place her. To answer all of your sweet questions about which HOD we will be using.....I'm still debating between Preparing and CTC. I think I just need some time on my knees and God will provide the answer for me about grammar and next year. DS4 will be using LHFHG next year. He is currently using LHTH

I'd likely move from Easy Grammar 3 to Rod and Staff 3, as Easy Grammar doesn't really do diagramming like Rod and Staff, nor does it include the composition found in Rod and Staff.

While some of the grammar may be a repeat, for an 8 year old I don't think you would want to head into Rod and Staff 4.

Anyway, I'd lean toward beginning Rod and Staff 3 now, since you're headed there anyway.
Blessings,
Carrie
