Do I need to purchase the Teacher's Manual for the Singapore 2A and 2B? I only got the textbook and workbook. We haven't started it yet, but I was just wondering if the teacher's manuals are helpful or necessary for this grade. Thanks!

Hi there! I am doing 2B with my daughter. I have the textbook and workbook and I also bought the Bigger manual to help out with Carrie's hands on activities to explain new concepts. I find she enjoys doing these before a lesson to help convey in a clear way what she will be learning. The textbook does have some pictures which help explain ways to think and lots of examples you can work through together before you get your dc to do the workbook pages, but it does not necessarily show you how to teach a new concept. The Bigger guide replaces the need for a teacher's manual as I understand it.

I have the Home Instructor's Guides for 2A/2B and I never use them, ever. :) I tried using them in the beginning, but I felt like they made me.... I don't know...overteach? I guess I just feel like they make things more complicated than they need to be. :) With that being said, they do have some nice ideas for games, activities, and ways to help kids learn math facts, so they're not completely worthless. :)

Do you have the Bigger guide to use for the math activities? Those activities are awesome and really help cement the concepts. Those along with the textbook would be plenty to teach with, IMO. If you don't have the Bigger guide, that's okay too. I think it's fine to just use the textbook and add in manipulatives as you see fit.

No, I don't have the Bigger guide yet. I was waiting until next school year to buy that one. We use Beyond right now, but he has flown through his 1A/1B very fast this year and is almost done with the 1B workbook, so I went ahead and bought the text and 2A workbook for the rest of this year.

I will probably just use the textbook and then do as you said, add in manipulatives or hands on stuff as I go. We'll see. I hate to be ahead of the Bigger guide in the math part when we start, but I can't really justify buying the Bigger guide right now.

Thank you!
