I just couldn't wait any longer...

...so I ordered LHTH for my almost 3.5 yo DS many months before I said I would. :P

Hello everybody! I've been lurking for a few weeks and now that I'm officially going to part of the HOD family I figured I should post something. I'm a SAHM to one child and knew I wanted to homeschool because PS out here in CA are not on my list of favorite things, and private schools are, for my personal situation, not worth the expense. I'd been researching curriculum options like mad since mid-November of last year and finally settled on an all BJU textbook plan. I think that would have been great in many ways, but something inside (God, perhaps?) kept niggling me to keep looking, that I hadn't found the right one yet. Near the end of December I read an old thread on another hsing board, in which a mom stated that when she had been curriculum shopping she hadn't been able to really grasp how great HOD was until she ordered the catalog. That little something inside niggled me again and said, "Just order the catalog, what can it hurt? Sure, you've already decided on BJU, but you never know..." And I'll tell you what, the day my HOD catalog arrived I took one look at the cover, and without even opening it, I knew this is what we were going to do. I felt such peace inside when looking through the beatiful catalog pages. After weeks of research and hemming and hawing, of picking other possible curriculums to pieces, I knew HOD was meant for us, that I could stop looking, and that I'd never feel the need to nitpick, question, tweak or supplement again. I'm so very, very excited to start this journey with my son, and I think Carrie and everyone else involved in creating this wonderful program should feel so proud of what they've given to the rest of us with all their years of hard work. So this is my first thanks to all of you (of many, no doubt!). :)

Oh, so yeah, I was going to wait and order LHTH toward the end of this year because we have enough preschool-like stuff at home to tide us over until then. But I never was any good at waiting. I plan on doing it half speed for the first 15 weeks or so, going full speed until we're finished at the end of the year, and then doing it again full speed until mid August, when we'll start LHFHG. Yay!

Welcome! I think you made the right choice, but I may be biased. :)

That is exactly how I found HOD too. Maybe we should send a thank you letter to the poster on that page :D . I totally believe it was meant to be that I found HOD and Im so glad I did. Best wishes on your new adventure.

How exciting! :D I believe God leads us to Him in little ways just such as this. I'm glad you responded to His leading, and I think LHTH is hands-down the best start to homeschooling ever. All 3 of my little guys (I guess my oldest isn't so little anymore  ) love(d) it (my littlest is still loving it now)! :D I am going to pass your kind words on to HOD's amazing graphics designer. He is a strong Christian man with a big heart for Mike and Carrie's endeavors, and I'd love for him to read your words here about the catalog cover. :D Thanks so much for sharing - and get ready to have some F-U-N with LHTH! :D

In Christ,
Julie

Thanks for the welcome, everyone!

Christina, yes we should send a thank you! I love it whenever I'm reminded what a small world it can be sometimes.

Julie, I agree that God sometimes leads through the quietest whisper. I think that if I hadn't responded to Him by ordering the catalog I may never have given HOD another glance, and I would have missed out on something amazing. Also, tell the graphic desinger that it's not just the cover, but the entire look (colors, pictures, etc), layout, and overall "feel" of the catalog that hooked me (and DH, too!). And I really appreciated all the writing in the catalog; the overview of the HOD subject areas, the thorough descriptions of each guide and corresponding books, and especially the welcome page, with it's complete snapshot of the HOD program and philosophy. It's all so exciting!

Oooh - I love to be able to send him another positive comment about the catalog's design! He is right now in the middle of working on the new guide going in the catalog, so this will be an encouragement given at an apt time! :D
