Printable master book list??

Hi,
I am wondering if HOD has some type of pdf file of ALL the books used in the curriculum?
We own a lot of books and I am having trouble remembering if we have certain books or not.... and then I am having trouble keeping track of which children have read which books (I only have 2 kids who are reading independently but hundreds of books)... UGH!! I would also like to be able to plan ahead a little, for example, we most likely won't be using the extension books but since we own many of them then we could read those for DITHOR and/or read alouds or for free time without messing the actual HOD core program up.. do you know what I mean?

So, I will give a child a book to read for DITHOR only to find that he/she has already read that book in their free time. I'd like a list so my kids can come and look and see that they aren't allowed to read certain books  or at least so they can mark off ones they have read. For example, my daughter knows she can't read Nancy Drew The Secret of the Old Clock until DITHOR 5/6... but my son has already read The illustrated book of Knights several times that is suggested as a history read aloud for RTR b/c he loves history. It is soooo hard to keep track of all these books. Or I will go to give an extra reading assignment for Bigger and find that my son has previously read the book :x because it was on our shelf and looked interesting! One problem is we have lots of books but not lots of space--no garage or other storage-- so I don't really have a place to keep the books separated. I do keep some of the books separated but then they are hard to get to and I forget if we own them or not  and see a good deal at a garage sale and buy another copy!!! I have tried to put little stickers on the bindings to mark them but find that the stickers fall off.

Obviously, I can make my own computer list, but I am trying to save time if someone has already done the work :?
Thanks

Not perfect, but I've just been marking them in the HOD catalog.

If you join the yahoo group "HomeschoolingHODMoms" and check the "files" section, you'll find a HOD booklist. It's in a spreadsheet format and has all HOD prices listed for each item.

Edited by moderator: (Thanks for asking about this link when you posted it. I removed it as this is actually to the Sample Book Ideas List, which is a for-purchase item only.)

I have started using color coded labels on the spines of my books to try and keep things in order. I just bought some small, cheap labels at a dollar store and color coded them with markers according to the colors of the manual they are used with (ex. dark blue for Beyond). For DITHOR I am using yellow labels and labeling them either 2/3, 4/5 or 6/7/8. Inside the book's cover I include more details such as reading level, genre, etc. They stick really well! :D

If you don't want to join the yahoo group just let me know. I think I still have the original on my usb drive. my computer crashed and i lost all my files on it so i am not sure if it I ever saved it to my usb or not. the yahoo group has alot of great info on it so it would probably be worth your while to join it. thanks, cheryl

I like to use the catalog and check off what we have from there. That has worked well for me. Plus, I have a visual of most of the book covers within the catalog, which helps me remember what the books look like when I am on the search for them. I finally put each of HOD's guide sets in its own tub with a lid and labeled them, so that helped me locate them more easily for the next go around with my second and third dc. But then my dc who had used the guides wanted to go back and reread the books from the previous guides, so I also ended up putting white labels on the spine with a "heart" and the initials of the guide so they could have them in their rooms, but I could easily recognize them. :D HTH!

In Christ,
Julie
