Are we behind?

It seems like life keeps throwing kinks into my days to where we are only on Unit 8 right now. Should I be concerned? At this rate we won't be finishing LHFHG by the end of the "typical school year". Do you just keep on with the program til it's finished even if it's through the summer?
Please forgive my questions.
Still trying to get a handle on all this.

For my school I would not consider you behind.
I run around what sort of works best for us. We have a lot of medical visits and that gets thrown in there. We try to still get our day done and often we do. And I typically do not like to run on the school schedule so we start later and end later. It works better with the weather in our area. I end our school year when we finish the guide. There typically are some extra days in there so we end up with our 180 days. Sometimes a little more if I had times when I felt like they needed to focus on LA and Math alone. But bottom line is I never worry about where other people are in the year. It just stresses me out so we run our own race.

We just started unit 9 in Bigger and unit 11 in Little Hearts, and we began the programs in early September. It is difficult to not get discouraged. I know that life will slow down for us now until spring, so we'll just hit it as hard as we can until baby arrives at the end of May. I don't know your child's age, but I doubt it will be a big deal if you have to finish LHFHG in the fall before you begin Beyond. Or some just move on to the new program in the fall. LHFHG is so easy to do/doesn't take much time in a day, I'd just continue through summer (except we're having a baby!)

You really don't need to end like a "typical" school year. If families take summer break they just pick up where they left off. Those of us schooling year around are never in sync - we will be starting two new guides next December.

We school year round, but due to various different circumstances we are not at all together with their different guides, although we've gotten pretty close. I quit trying to go with the school year pretty quickly.... it just doesn't work with our family.

We have done guides straight through, gone half-speed, and taken a break in the middle of them for summer with our various dc over the past years. Having a schedule that mirrors the ps schedule is definitely not necessary. Trying to have the best placement or pacing for dc is more important, and a successful school year often is the outcome of taking individual dc's needs into account. So, I think it depends on the age of your dc and their academic needs. In general, I like to finish a guide so that by the time we get done the right placement is the next guide. HTH!

Julie

I just do the whole guide at our own pace regardless of how long that takes us. otherwise, the guide holds you prisoner, and Carrie never intended that!
Whether you go in the summer is completely up to you...even if you DON'T choose to go in the summer, just pick up with where you were in the guide when you left off.
Then, when you are ready for then next guide, spring right into it.
My kids never needed prep time to do from guide to guide. They were excited to be doing something new
Hope this helps. Let this curriculum FREE you!

No!
We have just finished week 8 of Beyond and week, errm... let me see... week 3 in Little Hands? Who's counting? We continue at our own pace and LA and Math have their own pace altogether, never correlating with the guide.
Who's counting?

We are just getting ready to begin Unit 10 of Beyond...I was also wondering how behind we were.
We just moved in November, so that really got us off track. I'm still unpacking our house (not easy with 4 DC). I'm still hoping to begin Bigger next fall (we school year-round), but I'm trying not to panick if we don't begin until later.
