Nutcracker for Fantansy Genre?

I was just planning out what we are going to read for our fantasy read aloud in Bigger. We'll be starting it next week. I had several books that I was considering, but then I realized that we'll be taking a week break in the middle of the genre. So we'll have 2 weeks then a week break, and then 2 more weeks. So I was thinking it might be nice to use two shorter books. I just recently got the Dover Thrift Edition of The Nutcracker and I was thinking that might be a good choice to do for the first two weeks. That would make it end right before Christmas. Then I would use Rabbit Hill for the second two week period. What do you think? Have any of you read the Dover edition of The Nutcracker? Do you think it would be a good choice to use with the storytime plans or should I just do it as a bedtime story?

I haven't read it, but I think that sounds like great fun! :D Especially right before Christmas. What a neat idea! :D You'll love "Rabbit Hill" too - that's such a good read, and it will be different than "The Nutcracker", which keeps the kiddos seeing how wide the fantasy genre can be - variety is the spice of life. :D

In Christ,
