Okay, Ladies......I want to have some fun here....
What is your FAVORITE resource out of all of the resources you have used through HOD????? What is your favorite book...the most exciting, thought provoking, encouraging or just plain fun that you have used??? I know it is hard to choose especially if you have used most of the guides...
And your answer can't be "the teacher's guide"!!.....
Oh, it is so hard to choose because I pretty much like them all!!! I would say my favorite so far is Little Pillows by Francis Ridley Havergal in the Bigger package plans. I know it might seem like a small peice out of all of the wonderful books, but I CANNOT read that book without the tears flowing!!! For a long time I carried it in my purse!!
Your turn.....!

Oh my, do I really have to choose just one? I can't decide between the Thorton Burgess books in LHFHG (we loved them all) and
A Cricket in Times Square. We loved that book so much that we didn't want it to end and immediately went out and found
Tucker's Countryside to read. We love so many of the books in HOD!

My favorite book in LHFHG was the Family Time Bible. Our favorite book in Beyond has been Stories for Little Pilgrims. My son's favorite from CTC was Jashub's Journal. My favorite from CTC was God King.
Oh...and Come On Seabiscuit. I cried!

From Preparing my daughters loved Raiders from the Sea - the first book in a 5 book series. We just finished reading the rest of the books as read alouds!

Oh man, I just don't know if can choose! They are all so good! I've used LHTH, LHFHG and now Beyond. I think I'll chose one from each guide.
For LHTH, my favorite is the Big Thoughts for Little People book. So cute. For LHFHG, I really liked the Family Time Bible. For Beyond, we loved Sword in the Tree. Awesome book!

WOW, SO hard to choose, i love all of it!! We use LHFHG. I think the Reading Lesson is my favorite since we were struggling with getting my sons to want to learn how to read and this has been amazing. Both are reading and my oldest is almost finished and gets so excited to do his 'lesson' everyday, last night he was doing extra all on his own initiative!!! (since i HATED reading, this is HUGE for me!! How exciting!)
But, we love all the other parts of the curriculum too!

Ditto! I was going to write about all of the above...
All my kids loved
A Cricket in Times Square, even the ones who were not doing
HOD at the time. And my son loves the Burgess books...we have been reading them even though we did not use
LHFHG after all....and my 10 yo dd read them to herself too. They also really enjoyed the
One Small Square series used in
Bigger....and
Preparing....as well as
Draw and Write through History.

I also LOVE so much. I agree with so many of you about A Cricket In Time Square. We loved Misty Of Chincoteagus. But I have to say (for now) Baby Island.

Isn't it funny that so often I would have to say the last book we read!
I was thinking of putting the Guns for General Washington when I answered before because we were enjoying it so much as our current read aloud. We finished it today and it has to at least make the top 10 list. It was an interesting book and makes me ready to learn more and read more about the Revolutionary War.

From Preparing it would have to be Grandpa's Box. My ds told me I am never to sell it. From CTC so far I think his favorite has been The Boy of the Pyramids. He loved that story. Although he really liked God King also.

Ohhhh! This is so fun, yet so hard!
I love so many HOD books. I am not reading anyone else's response yet, so as not to be swayed.
I would say my favorite book would have to be
Grandpa's Box. I have to admit I have a special place in my heart for grandfather figures, and the grandpa in "Grandpa's Box" is an excellent storyteller when it comes to sharing Bible stories with grandchildren. He caught the excitement of learning more and more about the Lord at the knowledge level and then taking it more and more to the heart level. I loved that book and can't wait to read it again next year when I do PHFHG again with Riley.
Runner-Ups that tie for second place (I know, I shouldn't, yet can't resist sharing these too
)... "Little Pilgrim's Progress", "Little Pillows" and "Morning Bells", "The Viking Series", "God King", and "Boyhood and Beyond". All great books that struck a chord with my dc and me - we had difficulty not reading ahead ALL of the time. What a great question - thanks for asking it, and now I'm going to read everybody else's responses!
In Christ,
Julie

Grandpa's Box! It was so well-written, and made me see the Bible as a whole in a whole new light! Loved it!!!
Raiders from the Sea was a very close 2nd (and the suspense is still killing us to wait until RTR to read the next one in the series!!!!). We too just thoroughly enjoyed
God King.

I think for me, it would be Hymns for a Kid's Heart.
Many of the books have been a hit here. Most recently, Boy of the Pyramids and God King.
The Illustrated Family Bible has been wonderful too. It takes my DS a long time to get through his Quiet Time box because he likes to "dawdle" in that one!
