We are on our third year with My Father's World and have really liked it but I came across this HOD and am very interested! Could you help me figure out where my girls would place and how I would work them together.

My 7 1/2 year old is doing MFW 2nd grade this year. She is am amazing reader. She will have completed Singapore 1A & 1B by the end of this grade. She can write well.

My 6 year old is doing MFW 1st grade. She can write all her letters. She is learning to read and I hope she will be doing well by next summer with that. I planned to start her on Singapore 1A&1B next school year.

I plan for my now 4 year old to start MFW kindergarten next fall. She knows all her letters and sounds and can write most.

Thank you so much! It will be a huge help if I can figure out what I would order and how much so I can save appropriately.

Also, is there or are there plans to have a high school curriculum for this or does it pretty much end at 6th grade?

Hi Melissa! Welcome!! It sounds like your older two might use Beyond together, although you would want to look at the placement chart for the best fit. http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php Your oldest might be ready for Bigger but I'm not sure about placing your second child in that program. Take a look at the chart, find where they place the best, and then decide how important it is to you to have them in the same program. Best wishes!

If you want to keep the oldest together I would say Beyond, but since your oldest has done Adventures. I think Bigger would probably be better for her. Then you could do the two younger in Little hearts together(the younger could do the K option and the older could the 1st grade options), or the middle in Beyond, and the younger in Little hearts.

Melissa,

My best advice would be to order a catalog and really study the placement chart (or do so on the internet). This will really help you. Also, give Carrie Austin a call and discuss placement with her. She is so attentive in helping it is unbelievable!! Proper placement is key to HOD success!! Really take your time studying the curriculum to allow proper placement. Ordering the guides should probably not be done hastily!!

HTH!!

If you start Beyond in 2nd grade, HOD will take you (as of now) through 9th grade..... if you use Beyond with a 1st grader HOD will (obviously) take you through 8th :)

ETA: I think all of us with younger kids are praying for Carrie to write a high school curriculum :)

Thank you ladies. I did order a catalog, I think it'll be better if I can see it in person rather than trying to look online  .

And I may have to end up giving her a call too

Good to see you here :D
We are doing Beyond this year for 1st & 2nd grade with ER & Singapore 1 for 1st grade, DITHOR 2 & Sinagpore 2 for 2nd grade; . We started last year with LHFHG for K & 1s even though DD #1 would have placed better in Beyond.... It has worked out well for us. I am not sure what I will do with DD #3 who will be ready for K next Fall since I would really like to combine DD #3 & #4 for school also. And then in 6 years I will have the twins to "combine"!!

I know having the catalog in hand firmed up everything for me. And any questions I had Mike was great about answering. I am also excited to see that HOD will be at the Midsouth Homeschool Convention in March, so I get to look through future stuff in real life!

I am coming over from 2 1/2 yrs of MFW, so know where you are coming from with a few less girls in the mix. I just got a bunch of my books in the mail today and can't wait to get started.

Sorry for not having much of real substance to say. Just really hi :D

melissamomof3girls,

The ladies are doing such a great job of helping you talk through your options. We always advise using the placement chart to figure out where each child places individually (especially on the first page of the chart) prior to looking at combining. In that way once you know where each child fits individually, it is easier to figure out which kiddos would combine best and within which program(s). If you get a chance to pop back in and share where each of your kiddos place on the first page of the chart that would be great!

Thanks so much for what you've already shared about your older child. The only things I'm still wondering about her as far as placement goes is if she has had much in the way of spelling practice yet or started any grammar instruction? Another set of questions that I'm thinking will make a difference in placement is how easily she listens to harder chapter book style readings with no pictures, whether she's had any narration practice yet, and if she can easily copy several sentences up to a paragraph daily. :D

As far as your 6 year old goes, would you say she is closer in developmental and skill level to her older sibling or her younger one? How focused of a learner is your middle little one? Does she listen to chapter book style readings with few pictures fairly easily? Personality-wise who do you think would combine better, the older two or the younger two? :D

Anyway, just a few more questions to help us fine-tune your options. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Carrie ~ Thank you. Those were very helpful ideas.

My oldest is doing spelling and 2nd grade Grammar this year. She reads chapter books well.

My middle is fidgety and not as advanced reading-wise as her big sister. She is doing 1st grade this year but I'm not sure where we'll be by next June'ish?

Thanks so much for sharing a bit more. From what you've shared so far, right now I'd likely lean toward placing your older child in Bigger Hearts and placing your 6 year old in Little Hearts. Depending on when you actually start HOD with your kiddos, you may find that you could combine your 4 year old with your 6 year old (depending on when the 4 year old will be 5 and when the 6 year old will be 7).

If your 6 year old shows solid growth, and you feel that your older two love doing school together, you could consider combining her with her older sibling. If you did go that route, you may have to look at doing Beyond with both of them (and adding parts of Bigger Hearts for the 3 R's and adding DITHR for your older one to raise the level there). It's tough to say where they will place in a year, so these are just ideas for you to ponder as time passes. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
