As I am looking ahead to the future for my ds12, I am curious about the guide coming in Aug. 2011. What time period will this guide cover? The first half or so of American History? Ds12 is contemplating attending our local public high school in 2 years. He is currently doing Preparing Hearts in gr. 7. He has had almost a full year of Ancients 2 years ago and a full year of RtR a couple years before that. For 8th grade, I am going to try to fill in his gaps before he starts high school. In 9th gr. he will study American History 2 (1920s to present day). So, the only time period is lacking then, is Exp. to 1920s. If anyone could shed some light on the time period covered in the new guide, I would be so appreciative! Thank you!

Sue,
We now have a title for the guide after RTR! It will be called Revival to Revolution. It will pick up where RTR leaves off (around 1740 or so) and go up to 1900, spanning the time of "Revival through the Industrial Revolution". The guide to follow RevToRev will go from 1900 to modern times. Hope that helps!
Blessings,
Carrie

That is so exciting, Carrie! Thank you so much. That certainly does help a lot. I'm guessing the age range will be 11-13 with extensions for 14-15? Sound perfect for ds12.

And, since I will have CtC and RtR for his younger brothers...he can listen in on any stories that he finds interesting and won't miss anything crucial. AND, if we decide NOT to put him in public high school...he is still right on target for the newer guides. Thanks again!

Sue,
You're right.

The Revival to Revolution guide will be targeted for ages 11-13 with extensions for ages 14-15.

We're very excited about it as we're busily planning and selecting books for the Storytime and Extensions right now.
Blessings,
Carrie

I am super excited about this! My 12 year old is doing an online public school (her choice after I pulled her against her will from public school). I know HOD would be so much better for her! Besides the Christ-centered focus, the format would work better, I am sure. Right now, she works for 5 to 8 hours a day at the computer, and is still falling behind

The workload is ridiculous. I have a friend whose daughter (also 12) was having the exact same problem. I think these online schools really overdo it! I wouldn't recommend them for anyone unless they are at least in grade nine. My 15 year old, who is a high school junior, is not having any trouble keeping up, and often works ahead.
Keri is doing a world history overview this year, so technically CTC with Extensions would be a good follow-up in that regard, but because of her skill level and her age (she will be 13 this January) I am pretty sure the Revival to Revolution would be a perfect fit for her 8th grade year, as written. She loves to work on her own, but has recently begun taking breaks just to spend time with me and her younger sister, so I am sure that aspect would suit her as well. I am praying now that she will switch willingly, rather than balking like she did when I took her out of public school. I would like to present it to her as a choice, to do CTC along with her younger sister but using Extensions, or to do her own program using Revival to Revolution. I already have a math and grammar picked out for her
One thing I can say, is that Keri and her sisters have really been reconnecting this year, so I am glad they are home and glad at least that one of them is using HOD right now.

Lourdes,
That's so good to hear! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Finding the right balance workload wise is an ever present dance at our house with my oldest too. You're not the only one who wishes our guides were already written for upper levels. I find myself wishing it with my own oldest son each year!

I hope the guides will be the fit you're seeking. We are truly loving RTR this year with my second son in line.
Blessings,
Carrie

YEAH! I knew you would not do me wrong.

Praising God for that decision!
