Half Speed?
I hear a lot of you say that you are doing such and such at half speed. What does that mean exactly? I am just wondering if I fit in that category. Thank you.

Re: Half Speed?
For us, we did the left page one day and the right page the next. Math is every day regardless of which page we did.

Re: Half Speed?
We started LHFHG with DS when he was 4 so we did it at half speed for about a year. I recently bumped him up to full speed because he was ready for more. This is what our days looked like when we were going half speed:
Day 1
Reading about History & Rhymes in Motion
Handwriting - we did this everyday but didn't follow the guide. We started with ARFH K and then moved on to ARFH A when he was ready
Phonics - daily
Math - we usually did this daily, but if it was a harder concept we took our time and it wasn't that big of a deal
Fine Motor Skills - we did this everyday also but not according to the guide. I added in the other Rod & Staff workbooks and we just did a couple pages each day
Rotating Box - the box in the bottom left corner that has art, science, etc
Day 2
Rhymes in Motion - sometimes I would add in library books on whatever history we were reading about
Handwriting
Bible Study
Phonics
Math
Fine Motor Skills
Storytime
Hope that helps. You could also just do the handwriting and fine motor skills daily with the K options as scheduled and when you get to the end of the guide just start back at the beginning using the 1st grade options. We had already started adding in the rod & staff workbooks and doing handwriting with another program before we switched to HOD so we just kept doing that daily at our own pace.

Re: Half Speed?
We also do the left side one day and the right side the other day, but we do both reading and math everyday. We go 1/2 speed because our son started the guide below age and I don't want him to hit the next guide too soon, plus I don't feel he needs more time in school at this point than we are spending at 1/2 speed.

Re: Half Speed?
Over the years we've done half-speed with most of the guides at some point with our different dc. We've done half-speed for as short as 2 weeks and as long as 2 years. I love that flexibility to pace learning at the right speed for each of our individual dc! Here's a great link where ladies described how they homeschool half-speed:

Re: Half Speed?
Thank you. That was helpful. I think we need to do half speed for one of my ds, at least for a little while. What a wonderful curriculum HOD has made. Bless you!
