Question about future programs & expansion packs

I'm doing research now for next year. I'm currently using Beyond with my dd7. Ds9 and I are doing our own thing with living books for history, God's Design for science, blablabla. It's working, but I was considering moving him to HOD for next year. When I look at placement, both my kids could do Bigger with DS doing an expansion pack. Then for each subsequent year, I would get the
expansion pack for ds while dd did just the basic program.

My question is this. As I plan out the next few years, I would really like to stick with one program. I'm leaning towards HOD, and as I lookto see how this all plays out, dd would finish up the upcoming geography program in 8th grade; however, ds would be in 11th grade. Do the not-yet-released programs (World history and geography) have extension packs planned for the upper grades so that ds could do these programs alongside dd? Or will he need to move on to something else after RTR?

I hope my question is clearer than mud!

Well, not an expert here. But our plan is similar if you need "permission". My daughter will be doing the guides in high school with extensions. She will do RTR in 9th, etc.

Cheryl,

This is a great question, and one that we are busily pondering (and have been pondering for quite some time). The new guide that we will be releasing in 2011, which is going to be titled Revival to Revolution (by the way), will have an Extension Pack. The guide to follow Revival to Revolution will also have an Extension Pack. :D We are still pondering whether the Geography guide will have an Extension Pack, or whether it instead will no longer have a Basic Pack (for reading aloud) and will instead have one set of books that all kiddos should do if they are on a more distinguished college track type study for high school. This one set of books would be like an Extension Pack as it would add additional reading material to the core geography study, but would also be useful for students who are college-bound and want a more rigorous program. :D

Hope that helps! :D

Blessings,
Carrie

I love those ideas! I know whatever is decided will be great but just seeing this and doing a jump up and down. So happy they way HOD thinks about what is to come and can it work for a wide variety, never leaving out the ones who might want something on the more side rather than the less side. Knowing I am a more is more person it is great to be able to use a CM based curriculum and still have it all. :D Seriously though, love those ideas because it works for my dd who had CP and also has big goals as well as my children who have learning a lot easier and will have different goals. What a blessing. I needed to see this today. :D

I'm so glad that you like the title of the new guide and the ideas that we're planning for what is ahead. :D Late this evening I can honestly say that I have finally chosen all of the books for the new guide's Economy, Basic Package, and Extension Package. It has been quite the search, and I have read literally thousands of pages to bring to all of you books we've prayed over finding! The Lord is so good! I am so thrilled to see Revival to Revolution's book choices finally fall into place! :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Oh wow Carrie! I'm so impressed with all you do to make these guides work. I love that I can just completely trust in what you've chosen for my children. We're only in Bigger, but have used LHFHG, Beyond, and now Bigger and LHTH and I love to see where we're headed. Thank you so much, Carrie, for putting so much thought and effort into these guides.
