Introduction- New to HOD

I wanted to post an official hello, since I am relatively new to the board.

I'm Edie and have 3 dc. We have been homeschooling since our dd was 4. We have used a number of different curricula over the years including Abeka, SL and for the past 2 1/2 years MFW. I have been spending the past month reading everything I could about HOD and asking questions.

I was introduced to HOD through Jessica's blog. And first purchased LHTH after seeing all that she says and posts and it looked so wonderful. I loved the TM so much when I first got it that I decided to order a catalog and just see what else was available through HOD. Then when I got my catalog I spent the next couple of hours reading and re-reading it. Finally as the month has gone by I have really been praying about where God wants our family to go with homeschooling. When God provided the funds I ordered the Preparing TM. I love, love, love what I see in it and am really excited about getting to start.

I have had a pretty difficult year (2010). In January our oldest ds was diagnosed with complex multiple food and environmental allergies. God has been good in showing me how to change our loves to accomodate his needs and still stay within our one-income budget. The fall has been even more challenging as I've dealt with a difficult pregnancy that ended tragically. I am still recovering from that and have another surgical procedure scheduled tomorrow. All that led me to start to pray and ask if we needed to change how we are homeschooling our dd and how I could accomodate my two little guys' needs and still meet my own needs physically. I loved the progression of independent work that I see in HOD, which is what we really need in our home right now. And more than anything I LOVE how I see Jesus and His Word interwoven in such a deep way through out the program! :D :D

So in January we will be jumping into Preparing with DITHOR and doing LHTH with my 4 yr ds and 2 yr ds listening in!!!!
:D

That is an awesome testimony!!!

To encourage you...as you come out of this challenging season of your life, HOD is like having a soft pillow to land on in homeschooling. It shows us how to teach Jesus to our children even we are having a "dry" time as a christian woman. Also, it is so well laid out that I can move forward in homeschooling every single day even when I have rises and falls in my energy level and mood. That is one way that HOD has ministered to me as a woman. The icing on the cake...I don't have to go on rabbit trails hunting down supplies. I often found I could not fit that into my week before HOD.

I believe you will be so blessed by it! :) It is a change WORTH making!

My words in July were, "Preparing Hearts makes our homeschool possible!" This is true for all of the guides!

HTH!

Edie - it is so very nice to officially meet you, and I am moved by your words here. I pray for your health, and I also pray for HOD to be the balm to your spirits it has been to mine. PHFHG is an incredible guide, as it gives a sweep through history that keeps God's hand in it from start to finish. I think you are going to love it. :D

Liz- you have a way with words that just hits home. How true - every. single. word. in your post! :)

I'm so glad you both are here, and may the Lord continue to work in our hearts and minds, and as He does so, may He also continue to work through us as we homeschool our dc with HOD in a Godly way! God bless!

In Christ,
Julie

Edie,

I just wanted to welcome you and uplift you in prayer as well, praying that the Lord may surround you as face challenges with your health and that He will fill you with His peace as your soul is healing too. We pray daily that the Lord will bring those to HOD who may be blessed by what we have to offer, and the Lord is always faithful. He knows each family and its needs. We look forward to getting to know you better and pray that your journey through Preparing Hearts and LHTH may bring you ever closer to our Lord. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Thank you, Carrie.

I am truly in a state of healing in many ways right now. I greatly appreciate the prayers. I believe God is bringing me through a wilderness right now to refine me and show His Hand in our lives. I know He will get all the glory in the end.

I am so excited about starting HOD and really believe that it has been His perfect timing to bring us to find HOD. Right now I am just focusing on getting my strength back so that when the holidays are over I can be 100% for my family. You often don't really understand the value of something until you don't have it any more, right now that for me is physical strength. I have taken so much for granted until I lost all strength. But while I have been flat on my back for weeks, God has sent His Body to minister to us and it has truly been a blessing. I know in the end all things are for His purposes.
