Update...using Bigger with our English language learner

Some of you may remember that I wrote a few months ago asking questions about using HOD with our two 9 year-old sons. One is proficient in English and one has only been home a year. I'm so happy to report that Bigger has been a great fit for both boys! I was drawn to HOD because of the Bible integration, open and go manual, and boy-friendly activities, but was uncertain if it would be frustrating to our newest son. Amazingly enough, he has been able to participate in most of what we do. He listens to the history and science readings, loves the activities and experiments, and has really enjoyed the notebooking and maps. Bible has gone really well and they love to move around while they memorize their verses. I work with them separately on language arts and math, but otherwise they do everything together. Art has been a huge hit. I'm not at all an "artsy" person, so we do exactly what is scheduled in the manual. HOD has been as wonderful and effective as I'd hoped it would be! The concise lessons have been enabled us to get everything done. We're only on Unit 8, but I don't feel the need to hurry them along any faster.
In addition to reporting our success, I wanted to also encourage those who may be considering using HOD with boys and hands-on learners. It has just the right mix of books and activities to keep everyone happy. We love it!
