question about modifying LHFHG

Hi! First off I am new to hs and feel so blessed to have come across HOD! I really feel like it is the perfect curriculum for my family. I will be starting my son who is 3 on LHTH and my daughter who is 5 on LHFHG. They are on two completely different levels and I dont think combining will work. So, I just purchased LHTH for my son, and am getting ready to buy LHFHG for my daughter. I was looking at the devotional option for LHTH and really like the big thoughts for little people and the ABC bible verses. I decided big thoughts was better suited for my 3 year old, but was really liking Abc, so I was thinking of using it for my daughter in LHFHG. But as I went through the first week, i realize the devotional ties in with the topic for bible study and the week and uses devotions for the childrens hour. I was wondering if switching in ABC would be doable or even efficient. I really think the book will work better with my children than devotions for childrens hour. Has anyone switched out the devotional? Or do you have any suggestions?

Hi and welcome! I used ABC Bible Verses with my ds before we found HOD, and we really liked it. The devotional in LHFHG was great because it's tied to the history, but sometimes it was over my ds' head. We did it as written most weeks, and I re-explained things as needed, but there were a handful of times I just dropped it for the week. I don't think there'd be anything wrong with substituting the ABC one, if it's at a better level for your dc. You could just use the schedule in LHTH, ABCD review week, EFGH review week etc. Or you may find that your dd is ready to try it halfway through, and you could just pick it up then. The devotionals aren't in order, but chosen according to the weekly topic, so you'd be jumping around the book anyhow. HTH

My son was on the younger side of Little Hearts and although I started with the devotion book, I did end up switching to ABC. It doesn't match the history, but you can just read a page from it when the other devotional book is called for. I plan to go through the other devotional as a part of family worship when my youngest is a little older.

I think it would work fine. it won't tie in with the rest of the day's lesson. But it doesn't have to. More important for it not to be over their head.
ABC book is a cute book.
