Hi,
I'm beginning to dig through my many, many books here at home to see which books I have on my shelves already for my dd to use next year with Preparing. I *thought* I had the Find the Constellations book mentioned above on my shelves, but what I have is The Stars by the Reys (same authors). Since I have not read either one, can anyone compare these two books for me? I realize no one has used the new curriculum, but I thought perhaps someone might be familiar with both Rey books.

Also, I noticed that a new 2nd edition of Find the Constellations is coming out this year (2008) in hardcover, so I'm trying to decide whether or not to just use The Stars book from my shelf, or if I must pruchase FTC, to check into the new hardcover edition (since I MUCH prefer hc to pb books) or just use the paperback edition. Any thoughts? Hmmmm.... decisions, decisions!

"Find the Constellations" is a much larger format than "The Stars", has many more pictures, and is a much easier textual version of "The Stars" by the Reys. It is essentially a guide to the constellations with much information about stars included. It has some information about the planets and includes night sky views for each season.

There is a large difference in the overall difficulty of the two books. "The Stars" is much more geared to adults and high schoolers, whereas "Find the Constellations" is geared more toward mid-upper elementary.

Thanks for the info on these two books. I'm a book hound at heart and I love to shop library sales for used books, so I do have lots of older edition children's books (which is what I collect). I will now be hunting a copy of Find the Constellations for next year.
My local library sale is coming up this week, so I'm trying to get my "shopping" list together. Every little bit helps with the budget!
