Would he be beyond this program completely? Couldn't he still learn from it? Is there a way I can modify this some to "beef" it up just a touch? Maybe it is where he needs to be but the samples that I have seen are easier because it is from the beginning of the book. Any thoughts?

I know when I first received LHTH, I flipped through it and told my husband, "I got the wrong program this is too babyish for her". My husband told me to send it back and get the other manual. Well, I figured I would just keep it and order the next level. LHTH sat around for a while and eventually I picked it up again and figured I should atleast try it.
Turns out my daughter really enjoyed it (and it is not too babyish for her) and most importantly (at this age anyway), she was having such
fun. And she was/is really connecting with the bible stories as well. I attribute this connection with the bible stories to the activities/crafts that are tied in with it. She remembers the bible stories with such clarity and detail.
Every now and then I waffle between adding to LHTH or doing it as is. So far, we do it mostly as is. If I were to add to it, here are some things I would include:
Adding in the Rod & Staff ABC Series with the exclusion of the 2 workbooks that are to be used with LHFHG.
Add in some math, we have the Singapore Earlybird Series 1A and 1B. The next in the series are used in LHFHG so, that works out well!
For science, use the K level text that is included in LHFHG and when it is time to move on to LHFHG use the grade 1 science text that is recommended
A Reason For Handwriting "K" (just an example) and when it is time to move on to LHFHG use RFH level "A" ( I believe that is the next level!)
We also use another curriculum that is lit. based so that provides plenty of storytime.
So, I imagine you have probably thought about adding in things this way yourself, but thought you might like to hear all of that as well!
