Bigger layout

Post by MomtoJGJE » Fri Oct 22, 2010 5:43 am

Trying to get a rough schedule for next year to help with planning vacations, etc.

Does Bigger have a set number of weeks that are new information and then a review week? I know this is a silly comparison, but my brain is tired and the baby is screaming in my lap.... but like in LHTH you have 4 weeks of new letters and then a review week of all the letters they've learned to that point.

We're only in week 7 of Bigger, but so far everything each week is new. When I look ahead, it appears that every week is new. The final, fifth day of each week sort of reviews the week. It includes a history notebooking and timelining activity that summarizes what has been studied that week. The Bible study is a lesson out of the Bible that solidifies that verse and character trait that has been studied for the week. The poetry box that day is to review previous weeks' poems. So the fifth day plan has some review-type activities built in, but each of the 34 weeks is new material. I hope that helps. :D

If I remember correctly, Spelling also does the "review" week in Bigger. If you are doing dictation instead of spelling with Bigger, that doesn't apply.

Thanks.... we've decided to do so many weeks doing school then some time off, and if there was a review week I was going to schedule that for the beginning of the new rotation...

We're doing the dictation so I hadn't even thought about the spelling list. I grabbed my TM and here are the review weeks for spelling: 7, 13, 18, 24, 31. Hopefully that will help you in your scheduling. :)

Storytime books run on a 20 day schedule - not sure if that matters to you or not - but I thought I'd mention it. Also, DITHOR has 20 days of plans for each genre. Usually skills in HOD are rotated within a week, within a unit, or within 4 units. So, natural breaking points overall may be every 4 units, or every 8 units, or every 12 units (which was considered a term in CM's time) . HTH! :)
