Feels a lot like 39

My plans have been railroaded however, as yesterday afternoon we discovered...LICE in my youngest daughter's hair...tons of them...

And this morning, her older sister too...ACK...but just a few eggs, no live ones. Not surprising, as they share a room. So I am currently exhausted, having spent last night and today washing clothes and bedsheets in hot water, spraying lice spray, vaccuuming, treating heads, combing bugs and nits...ewwww. So far no sign of anything on the older kids or me or Dan.
Needless to say, we did not do school today...*sigh*

Oh i know how you feel.. the day we left for our support trip (3-4 weeks of on the road) last summer was the last day of school... I pick up dd get her home. Get her dressed for the air plane.. we have a hour or 2 we do stuff ya know.. then 30 min before we leave I'm up packing and stowing her school bag and what do i find but a notice from the school saying Your dd's class has Lice, please treat your child... ARRRGGGHHHH...
But alt least I had nix in the cupboard so I was able to treat her and only make our ride wait 5 min to take us to airport. Oh how annoying!

Happy Birthday! Lice - not much of a gift

ICK!! We've been through that before, not much fun...but quite the learning experience.

Happy 40th Birthday!

I bet you're itching for another way of celebrating it though (I know, a terrible pun - couldn't resist).

Truly though, I do hope you can have a b-day do-over. Maybe just you and dh on a date somewhere? That is something I long for, as it's tough to pull off. But, when we do get to go, it feels like a gift. One thing I was just thinking - at 20 yo, I would have totally flipped out about finding lice anywhere. At 30 yo, I would have had to consult someone else about what to do about lice. At 40 yo, yeah... I'd just get the special shampoo, the little comb, and hit the laundry using extra hot water and super strong soap. I guess the silver lining is at least you knew just what to do and it didn't ruffle you tooooo much? Right?!?

Here's to hoping your next day is better.
In Christ,
Julie

Yikes...LICE!!! Last summer, after half the kids came back from Camp Westminster (church camp)...half the kids in church turned up with lice about a month later...including mine! After freaking out, vacuuming six or seven times a day, laundering EVERYTHING daily, bagging rugs, stuffed animals, etc. We still had it. Turns out that the western lice are developing an immunity to Nix. We learned this after 3 Nix treatments. Our doctor suggested suffocating them under mayonnaise head wraps. That was a good idea if we were planning to put our heads between slices of bread and add ham, but it didn't work for the lice! We found a natural oil treatment which included tea tree oil, rosemary oil, neem oil and something else (you can get the recipe online and make it yourself) and it killed them all. I still brush with the lice comb once a week for fun

but we got through it.
I am praying for you!!!

Thanks everyone! Oh, Heather, I hope I'm doing enough! I got exhausted from cleaning for only 2 days...I first used olive oil on my youngest, then retreated with Rid. The Rid kit came with a combing gel and lice-killing spray for all those non-washables and furniture. All the live bugs in my youngest's hair died instantly with the Rid. I'm praying the eggs are dead too. I laundered all the clothes and sheets, and will launder everything they wear and the sheets again. Rid instructs to treat again in 7 days. In the meantime, I am oiling and combing their hair daily anyway (and mine), and my husband is using a lice-repellant shampoo, since his fine blond hair would look awful greased! So far, no sign of anything on either one of us, nor our older kids who also survived the last outbreak a few years ago due to their naturally extremely oily hair

It sounds like you are doing plenty! I would not worry about it, though I would definitely retreat in 7 days as the instructions recommend. I "over" reacted

and it sounds like you are "reacting" properly
