Well, well, well. This is how terrific this program is. I am using LHFHG and I am sure you can do the same with LHTH.

My 5 yr old soon to be six son has informed me that he is now ready to have school in spanish. We are a hispanic family, and speak spanish at home but my son has never wanted to speak it, until now. We just returned from a mission trip in Mexico and he made many friends. He could understand them but could not find the words to talk back. So now FINALLY he thinks spanish is cool.

Here is what I have done with HOD to make it bilingual.

Learning through History - all in spanish. The 101 Bible stories is available in Spanish. The science book is easy to translate on the spot. The Rhymes I re-write in spanish and am substituting the devotional for one in spanish. The Steve Green CD is also available in spanish, even though not all of the songs as in on the English CD.

Learning the Basics - all in English. Even though I have been giving instructions in Spanish. I am also adding a Phonics program in Spanish.
It would have been awesome to read the Burgess books in Spanish, but I cannot find anyone who has taken the time to translate them. However the Beatrix Potter stories scheduled later are available in Spanish.

When we begin American History I will do this in English.
I don't know how this will work for when we start Beyond next Fall - but for now it is working beautifully.

What a fantastic idea! I would really like for my daughter to learn Spanish as well. I am going to use some of your ideas! Thanks for helping me to see "outside of the box"!

Wonderful plan, Dorla! I am also Hispanic (Puerto Rican), though my husband is Asian (Filipino)-maybe now I may have time to teach them Spanish-always wanted to teach them in the past, but never had time with other curricula! My ds took Spanish in 1st year high school

Thanks for the wonderful ideas Dorla. I just ordered the Spanish version of 101 favorite bible stories. I'm going to read the story in Spanish then in English when my daughter does LHFHG next year, and I plan on using it for the Spanish class at Co-op.

My BIL is Mexican, and he's read some books on tape for my boys before. Maybe I'll ask him to read some of their school books on tape!

I read on some classical homeschool board that they suggest doing Greek. They start with the scripture memory verse in english side by side the Greek. I thought this would be a good easy way to learn a foreign language. Maybe getting a Spanish Bible and reading the English and the Spanish side by side.
