Hello everyone! Just had to share about my dd8 who has been a reluctant reader. When I first received my set of ERs I was a teeny bit skeptical

. I thought that this seemed too easy to take my dd from a struggling reader to a fluent one. Wow was I ever wrong! We're only in our fourth week and she has BLOSSOMED! She is eager to read the Early Readers Bible everyday I think partly because she knows that she can do it! Prior to HOD reading lessons took FOREVER. Not anymore. A couple of times she has even wanted to read ahead. I'm just beside myself! I've seen her go from being unsure of her abilities in reading to volunteering to read in a group setting

. As happy as I am that her reading has improved I'm even happier to see her confidence in herself improve. Thank you to everyone who assured me that this gentle approach works even when I wasn't quite convinced.

That is so great to hear. I'm rejoicing here with you!

It is so nice to see our dc blossoming in their abilities.

I absolutely loved reading this.

It made my eyes tear up! I'm very proud of your dd for opening her heart to reading after feeling like it was something she wasn't the best at doing. This is something we all struggle with - trying to do something we feel wasn't/isn't quite our best thing - and yet in four short weeks your dd has managed to do just that. Her attitude is commendable, and her effort is applause-worthy!

She has many wonderful books ahead of her in the ERS. I hope the two of you enjoy each and every one of them as your dd continues to blossom!
In Christ,
Julie

Gina, your post was so encouraging to me! I have a reluctant reader too, ds7.5. Are you using a program to teach reading? I haven't ordered the emerging reader books yet but will do so sooner rather than later now. Was waiting to order with Bigger that we will start before too long. We're finishing up Beyond (LOVED it!), last year was our first year homeschooling. I've been using the "Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons" and we're not quite through with that yet. I didn't quite grasp what all I needed to order wtih the guide so didn't get the reading program and had to get one later. Some days are good, some just seem totally unproductive! He just doesn't even seem to want to learn to read some days, but he loves being read TO. He gets frustrated because he wants to already know how to do it, he doesn't want to have to learn how to do it. Maybe that is a boy thing. He is a wiggler and likes to have something to occupy his hands with while we do the reading lessons. Anyway, I'm so happy for you and I'm going to get my order ready and pray that these books will have the same effect on my ds!

Carol, I don't think it is a boy thing because that sounds just like my dd!

I did teach my dd phonics but she has been finished for quite some time and just hadn't 'taken off' yet. I'm sorry to say that I wasn't as patient as I should have been.

I felt like she had all of the tools to be a fluent reader and yet she wasn't. She now just amazes me every day. If your son isn't finished with phonics than I would complete that first and then move onto the ERs. They are learning so many other things that are hard to measure as well so don't be discouraged if you don't see the kind of results that your expecting. I'll be praying for you and your son.
