Preparing Week 6 Egyptian Pastry....

How did yours turn out?
Our dough was too sticky to roll out so we added more flour. Then I couldn't really understand coiling it, so we twisted it, but it would break apart, probably because I added too much flour. I also didn't have baking powder, only baking soda, but only used 1/2. We just ended up rolling it into a tube then twisting it. I highly doubt mine looks the way it should, so I'm not going to post any pictures of it.

It is not pretty.
Anyway it's not bad! My DH loves it!

I took coil to mean to make it like a cinnamon bun looks

We also added more flour to it, and they tasted fine-we made double the recipe, and made them again recently just because we liked them so much

Oh yeah!

Like a cinnamon roll! Oh sheesh! Ugh....Like I said, I'm not a cook.
I may have to try it again. They are pretty tasty.

We've not gotten to this yet with my ds, but I remember when my older son made these and they turned out quite well. He coiled them like a croissant and they were quite tasty and I didn't intervene at all. I do remember the dough was quite sticky for him, but he managed to work with it fine. My younger ds has been asking when he gets to make the pastries...

These look great! I also now remember Julie's son making them. (Insert Charlie Brown whine here!) I will not show a picture of mine, however, my dh had them with his dinner last night. I just kept thinking pastries I'd see at a "fest" (maybe a Greekfest) that always have a tubular twist with all the sugar sprinkled on them!
Even my dh said coiled like a cinnamon bun. Next time I'll ask him.
I'm going to keep the recipe though.

Our Egyptian pastry is on page 14 of the PHFHG Photobook at this link:

Don't feel too bad - my statue cookie we did in CTC was done in neon food coloring, as it's all we had on hand, and it resulted in a very strange statue not at all as neat as the ones I've seen others post.

Sure tasted good though, and my ds still loved making it.
In Christ,
Julie
