and won't conflict with HOD suggested readings???

As my 6 year old curled up in bed with his "Little House in the Big Woods" book that I had PLANNED for him as a read aloud in a few weeks, I thought I might try asking this here. Can anyone give me some good and Godly "alone time" reading book ideas...maybe favorites that your kids had when they were younger. My 6 year old reads at 4th or 5th grade level, but he prefers shorter books at night so he can get through a whole one before bed (like Magic Tree House...but I would rather he read something with a little more...um...well, you know...just a little MORE).

could you get him another reading set? Like if you are using the classic set as read alouds, get him the boys set for him to read?

Have you ever seen Honey for a Child's Heart or Read for the Heart? They are both book lists. I like Read for the Heart a little bit better in the way it's written. Plus it's written by a former homeschool. :D You could get ideas from there. Your library probably has Honey for a Child's Heart.
