Optional Literature in LHfHG

Post by mamanlait » Fri Sep 03, 2010 7:09 pm

We are big book people here and really want to do a lot more of the optional literature for LHfHG but are having a hard time locating those books. Can I ask for suggestions on where I might find a bundle pack of these author's/publisher's books online (or maybe even appeal to the HOD folks to carry them?!). We are on week 5 and would love to beef up Storytime with more stories and books the rest of our year (and I'm AWFUL at losing library books in my mess of a house!). I might even be happy with just some Read Aloud suggestions. We've recently finished Milly Molly Mandy and it was a HUGE hit with my girls. We have also done the My Father's Dragon series. Any more volume or series type ideas if the Optional Lit can't be located easily? By the way, all of my picture books are currently in storage so I can't just grab a handful of books off my shelf right now...that's a big part of the delimma.

Thank you,
Amy

I do not have an answer. I am also interested in this same question - I've wondered where to find the recommended books. thanks.

Amy,

We are avid readers here too, however the Optional Supplemental Book Suggestions for LHFHG are simply meant to be optional. Those exact titles also are not necessary but will give you a great idea of what topics would fit well within the corresponding unit. Many of the books in the opening unit lists would be better found at a good church library as they are from Christian publishers, matching the content you're reading in the Bible for LHFHG. :D

As far as good read-alouds go, if you are note desiring to match LHFHG you could easily look at the Boy, Girl, and Classic Sets from Beyond and choose any of those to read-aloud to your children. Or, if you are loooking for books for your children to read on their own, you could always use the Drawn into the Heart of Reading Sample Book Ideas List for ideas. :D

I wouldn't work hard to gather the exact titles on the Supplemental List for LHFHG (as there are so many it would be highly expensive). Simply use is as a starting point. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Thank you for responding, Carrie.

I did find some of the Arch Books at our local Christian Book Store for $2.50 today. I would buy some of the Storytime Books from Beyond but want to save them for next year! :) I'm always looking for more books it seems. I guess there are worse problems to have.

We are loving LHfHG!!! My family is being blessed through your hard work and prayerful writing! My oldest daughter thinks I'm playing favorites letting her younger sister do HOD in our homeschool (dd9 started with Bigger and wants to shrink back to age 5 just so she can do the earlier guides :). I sooo wish I would have found HOD sooner!

Praying for you as you write the next guide and homeschool your own.
