Hard time with CTC

My son is 12 yrs old. This is our 3rd year using HOD. We are having a very rough start with CTC. It seems like way too much work for him. He is getting really frustrated with everything. Almost every day has turned into tears. We are on our second week. I took two weeks to do one week thinking it would help ease us into the school year. So my question is this--do we keep pushing on and hope it gets better. Do I do something else this year and do CTC next year for 7th grade?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a particular part of it that he is struggling with? Too much writing? Too much reading, etc?

My questions were the same as Birchbark's. What exactly is he struggling with?

Are you adding in a lot of extras or doing CTC as written? If you are using extensions, you may want to stop those and let him do it as written for awhile. I have an 11 year old son doing CTC as written and we are really enjoying it. I would love to try to help you if you will give me a bit more to go on as to what is reducing your poor ds to tears. :(
