OT-I have a question?

Post by holyhart » Wed Sep 01, 2010 9:34 am

How have you taught your children to tie their own shoes? :?

I can not seem to teach my dd who is 7 this skill. She is very bright, and generally picks things up quickly (things like croctheting and hand sewing etc,), but this is escaping us. I assume there must be some trick to help?

Thanks!

I don't know if there is a trick to this or not!! :D

I can't seem to teach my ds (almost 8) to tie his!

But my mom showed my dd ONE TIME how to tie her shoes and she is now tying her brothers shoes!! The sad thing is she was barely SIX at the time.

I will admit I did take pictures of my six year daughter tying her soon to be eight year old brother's shoes one Sunday morning before church!! 8) 8)

 I have five children and I haven't taught a single one to tie their shoes!! I let my husband handle that! He is working on helping our five year old daughter with it right now. He does some little poem about a bunny and a hole.. Seems to work pretty good, he had them all taught before they were 6.

I too have struggled with this. It was actually our neigbor, maybe 8 at the time, who taught my then 2nd and K children to tie their shoes...something about a bunny as well. :D My ds 7 has yet to learn. We are about to buy new tennis shoes though and they are going to have to be with shoestrings so he can learn. We do have a BIG plastic shoe that fits over dc's real shoe that they can practice with...I've seen them before in online catalogs. I may get that out and have him start practicing...I'm embarrassed to say we've never used it. Maybe you could find something like that?

I have not succeeded in teaching my 11 year old how to tie shoes. she just isn't that coordinated yet. I bought her these shoelaces that you pull they are curly and hold nice and tight. My 8 year old came home at 5 knowing how to tie her shoe.. weird tho very few shoes actually need laces any more.

I did get her to tie 2 loops together in a regular knot. it was way easier than the full blown tie I learned. Tho if you search "bunny rhyme for tying shoes" in google you will find instructions.
