And I am loving HOD. We are doing LHFHG. My 5yo seems to like it too. He does the workbooks and sometimes like the other day when I took the 3yo to the potty, he does above. I came back and he had done three more pages (not every thing on the pages) of math and it was right. LOL
I feel like I am not doing enough because I am not as good with the hands on stuff and being prepared but he is getting it.
He is amazing us with the scripture memory.
One thing is though he will NOT do the rhymes in motion. I say them and do the motions but he will not. I figure he will eventually plus he does not have any problems with gross motor skills so I am not too worried.
He is also not good at answering the questions about the read aloud. He can some. I don't push it I just remind him.
My one concern is when the 3yo gets old enough doing two levels. I am not sure I could handle that. Any thought/suggestions?
3 Weeks down
Re: 3 Weeks down
We are also finished with 3 weeks in LHFHG and loving it! My dd is doing an awesome job with the Scripture memory also.
She also does not want to do the Rhymes in Motion sometimes. But, she does have gross motor problems from CP. One thing we are working with is encouraging her to try, even if it doesn't go well. She gets frustrated if she doesn't do it just right the first time, so if she thinks she CAN'T do it, she won't even try.
As far as answering questions, dd does well with that. She just has trouble with telling back what we read. I've just been talking her through it to get the idea of what she needs to do. Hopefully she will eventually understand how that works. She knows what is going on in the story, but just can't put things in order when I asked what happened in the chapter.
Don't worry about doing two guides. When that time comes, there are many on this board who can help you with organizing your days. Just enjoy this year doing LHFHG.

Re: 3 Weeks down
Just keep on... eventually they'll do the stuff, or they won't, but it's the exposure and consistency that matters
The questions will happen, but just be patient. My oldest is finishing up beyond this week and still doesn't answer the questions like I think she should
And as far as two guides.... relax! you have a year to get there at least, and that's assuming you are planning on starting two guides next year... LHTH is super easy and short even if you are planning on starting it later this year. But a lot changes in just a few months when they are 3/4.... maturity happens in leaps and bounds. You don't have to worry about starting two guides RIGHT NOW... you have plenty of time to ease into it

Re: 3 Weeks down
Congrats on a great start to LHFHG!
I think it's good to reflect, and focus on what's going right, as well as what to continue to help dc patiently improve upon - which is just what you are doing here.
He is doing well overall, can do the work in math easily, can do the work in workbooks well, has shown he's good at Scripture memorization, and already answers some of the comprehension questions well.
Much is going well and is to be celebrated - so way to go!
It sounds like you've also identified you want to work on being prepared for teaching the hands-on parts more, increasing reading comprehension for your ds, as well as fostering a joining in attitude toward the rhymes.
All worthy goals! Just remember that everything is not intended to be easy or for pure enjoyment!
If it was, I'd wonder if learning was taking place. Many of these skills take the whole year to grow into, and no matter what we do, some of the skills won't be our dc's natural bent or their favorites. I don't take this personally, as I know it's impossible for them to like every single part of what we do, though I must say HOD makes that just about possible.
So, just clip along with things, and you'll more than likely see improvement (i.e. the rhymes take 2-5 minutes for example, so do them once and move on, but encourage him to join in as you go). I think your ds will continue to grow into LHFHG and do very well with it!
I wouldn't worry one bit about teaching 2 HOD programs - just enjoy this year. It's easy to do several HOD programs - no sweat!
Glad you shared!

Re: 3 Weeks down
After I posted this I came home Tuesday after a doctor's appt and my 16yo son told me the whole story of Reddy Fox because my 5yo had told him all about it. LOL I thought he was not even paying attention. So that eased my mind and now I just keep reading and know that he is paying attention even when he is hanging upside down. LOL
Thanks ladies for all the comments. I am loving HOD. I will just keep plugging along and I know that like the retelling of Reddy he will eventually get it.

Oh, CM would love this!
You "gotta" love the 16 yo narrating back the narration the 5 yo gave. Pretty neat!

LOL! My 12-year-old daughter was just like that at age 5, "hanging upside-down" but listening to every word! She's still an active learner, as I've observed her recently hanging off my bed with the laptop doing her social studies...and she got a 100 on the quizKim S wrote:After I posted this I came home Tuesday after a doctor's appt and my 16yo son told me the whole story of Reddy Fox because my 5yo had told him all about it. Sounds like you are off to great start with your active learner-enjoy!
