Beyond-Poetry Copywork-Examples

Post by John'smom » Wed Aug 25, 2010 10:14 pm

I am so excited to be starting Beyond next week. I was wondering though with the poetry copywork is the intent to write it spaced just like it is on the page? I can see where some of it would be practical, but other lines that are typed and only take up one line appear that it would take two lines written. I hope this makes sense. Also I'd love to see any photos of your dc's copywork for Beyond. Can you tell I'm visual? :D

I've always coorected my kids when they run the lines together. it is poetry if the line is
too long and needs to fall into the next they should start the next verse on the next line With a bit of an indention.
line spacing is important too :-)

here is a visual
Roses are
red, violets are
blue, Sugar
is sweet, and
so are you!

is written all wrong and I would point out the errors and ask for better next time not a re-do.

Written properly if it say was too long for one line per verse...
Roses are
red.
Violets are blue.

Sugar is
sweet,
And so are you!

does that help?

Tansy,
I knew it was important for poetry, but couldn't figure out how it would look when handwritten. Your example is exactly what I needed to see. Told you I was visual. :D Thanks so much for taking the time to type that up. I was just have a mental block.

Since it is poetry, I tried to make sure that they wrote it correctly as Tansy showed in her example. I tried to write it out first for them so they would have a good hand written model to follow. That was time consuming sometimes so instead I used a program that would allow me to type it using the Zaner Boser font in a decent size. That way I could space it out correctly and they could see what it was supposed to look like. Occasionally, they still wouldn't quite get it right but we worked on it. I'm going to try to attach two pictures, a sample of each of my dc's work.

You can tell that it isn't perfect, but they were starting to get the hang of it. :D

Hi! We are on unit 4 of Beyond. We have started with 1st grade handwriting paper, we will then switch to the RediSpace transitional notebook paper, and then we will go to wide ruled paper. For the handwriting paper, I am just letting my daughter copy it straight, but when we switch to the transitional notebook paper and then wide ruled paper, I will have her write it as appears in the manual. Right now, I feel like she needs time to work on her letter formation a little longer  . Hope this helps!

Blessings,
Christy :D
