Hi Beautiful Girls,

I am sorry I've not been active this past week. :( I probably won't be for 1-2 more weeks.

My precious Daddy had his cancer surgery Friday.

Image

Thank YOU for your prayers, he is doing SO well. He did not have to stay one night in ICU. (they had told us he would be there for 3 days as this was MAJOR surgery, Praise to the Lord)

We find out Wednesday if they got all the cancer. However, even if they find they did, he will still need chemo/radiation.

We did get a chance to fit HOD in though! We took a family field trip to see , "The Nina"! How perfect the Lords timing was!

Lastly, I had a Betty/Olive Workshop this past Tuesday!

It was so much FUN! There was a lot of laughter! I really picked on Christa, my beautiful Olive friend. Every story I told revolved around her! (they were all positive stories)

Now we are off on vacation (leave Wednesday) to visit my dad and to go to my SIL's wedding out of state! I'll miss you, but I'll check in if I get computer access! I must be the only person in the world who doesn't own a laptop?![/b]

Mary,

I'm so glad that your dad did much better than expected with his surgery. That is certainly a gift from the Lord.

I can't believe that is the Nina in the picture! It is quite small isn't it! How amazing that Columbus and his men sailed on ships that size.

We'll miss you while you're gone!

Blessings,
Carrie

I have missed you Mary!! So happy to hear about your daddy (I'm a southern girl and we call 'em "daddy" forever down there! ).

That is very cool that you got to see the Nina. It looks so tiny compared to ships today! I'd have been ready for mutiny too after being on there for so long!

I would just love to go to one of your workshops and sit by Christa and just laugh my head off!

We will anxiously await your return.....
:D Mel

Thank You so much for all of your precious life-giving words!

Facts about "The Nina"

1- The reason it's so small is because it was built to be a coastal boat. Back when Columbus sailed they had not started making the big boats, like the pirate ships yet. That would come 200 years later.

2- When you look at the pictures of us on the boat, think about how cramped it must have been. They had livestock and supplies below, so all 28 of the crew members had to sleep on the deck!?

3- My husband asked why they had so many crew and the guide told us it was because it was a LOT of physical man-power to get the boat into dock. It's one thing when your sailing out on open water but to have to steer it into dock was much harder. Also, they went into the voyage knowing that many would die and if you started with a small crew you could get in trouble that way.

We went to Jamestown Settlement in Williamsburg several years ago and they have full-scale replicas of the three ships that transported the first colonists to Virginia. We were horrified to see just how small these ship were! There is NO way I would ever get on one of those short of saving the life of my child for what ever reason. And then to be told how many folks actually rode on those things! Yikes! The insides were incredibly small. The crew that had to sleep on deck were the lucky ones in this case! Watch the slide show here and you will be able to see one pic with men on deck:
