The "I"ndependence box in Preparing

Post by annaz » Sun Aug 22, 2010 6:42 pm

How do you work these? Do you copy these or just tell them or make a schedule for them to follow?

Just curious how others are using the box.
If there's a link to this discussion, please let me know. Too much came up in the search to weed through.
Thanks!

Same thing as Kathleen. I just read over them to see what my daughter was doing and if there was anything I thought she might need clarified I did. My clarification was usually something like do your best with this and I want to see a really good job. Truly I found she could work through the I boxes all on her own.

But if I give her the manual to read it, then she'll see all my teaching secrets. Ah....I mean Carrie's teaching secrets. :D

Yep - teaching secrets exposed. But, that's a good thing, as the dc are somewhat the "teachers" for the "I" boxes! :D We too just gave Wyatt the guide and let him know it was his to follow for those boxes. In CTC, there are even more "I" boxes, so the child takes over the guide even more. It is truly a wonderful thing, as it makes independence not only possible but successful! :D

I know it feels scary to hand them the guide, but think of the guide shifting to be more the student's book of lessons or the student's planner rather than your Teacher's Guide when it comes to the 'I' boxes. It actually is meant to work that way, so you don't have to purchase a separate guide for the student and one for yourself. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
