How many oceans are there?

I thought I was going crazy until I saw it right there in print. In Unit 1 day one of Bigger hearts it says 4 oceans (Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Arctic). Then on day 4 of Unit 1, it says 5 oceans adding the Antarctic. Which is right???? I knew we studied 5 oceans last year in Beyond!

Thanks,
Teresa

Well, I guess the "experts" can't decide because we checked out a book from the library recently on oceans, and it said there were five. It also listed the arctic and antarctic separately.

I really think it can go either way. I just teach my son the 4 main ones and tell him that some people think there is actually another one...the antarctic ocean.

On the map we just bought, it lists the Antarctic Ocean as the Southern Ocean.

I have the same...Southern Ocean.
You'd think they could at least name all the oceans and have them the same. So what is it? Or should I say, what are they?
