Readers suggestions

Post by slavila » Fri Mar 14, 2008 6:29 am

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for readers. My ds can read short vowel 3 and 4 letter words and we are currently working on blends. We have been using Bob books, and they are alright, but I was just looking for some more ideas. For phonics we work with ETC and Happy Phonics.

My dd loved the Animal Antics readers:

They come in levels and if you click on them, scroll down a bit there are more. They work like Bob books, but are colorful and much more funny!!!!!

What about Cat in the Hat and others in that series Dr Suss... they were originally intended to be "readers" But They took off as children's books... Go dog go and old hat new hat still excite my DD.

in the back of the books you should find a world list that shows you all the words in that book. its usually less than 20 words total.. that is why they are so silly... only 20 words to choose from to write the whole book.

I agree the BOB books are good readers to begin with. You can also just order the Hooked on Phonics readers separately from the program, and those are really colorful and neat too.

Once your child can read the first few books of the HOD Emerging Reader's Set, you can just go ahead and start that. The questions and schedule for that are listed in the Beyond... guide, and that set is awesome!
