Preparing - how many notebooks/binder sections, etc?
Preparing - how many notebooks/binder sections, etc?
I can't seem to get a handle on this. I know we need a "Commonplace book" and we have that. But exactly what other notebooks, binders, sections of binders, etc. do we need for Preparing? I need to get this figured out. Thanks.
I've done all the guides now with at least one child and still feeling the HOD LOVE. LOL!

Hi, in addition to your common place book, you need a sketchbook or white paper for history, it's extra nice if you have pages with the top blank and lines on the bottom; you need a science sketchbook or white paper, also a notebook with lined paper for written answers to quesstions that are given once a week, and you need a section for experiments-I suppose an easy way would be to have a science binder with sections. If you are using rod and staff grammar you need a notebook for that, and I use separate notebooks for written narrations/creative writing and dictation, but you could also have a Language Arts binder with sections for each. Depends on what you are comfortable with. My daughter likes having lots of separate notebooks, other kids might prefer binders or even paper in folders...

We used a binder for History where I put all his history notebooking, Draw and Write through history and written narrations(since they were about the history reading), a Science binder with one section for experiments and one for notebooking and questions, and a Language Arts binder for dictation and poetry writing assignments. We didn't use Rod and Staff, but you could put the written work for that in that binder also. I used the page protectors and just slipped pages in those for all binders. It was quick and easy.

Re: Preparing - how many notebooks/binder sections, etc?
It always helps me to read through the Introduction, the "Learning Through History" section, and the "Learning the Basics" section at the front of each manual (even if I've used it before) when I'm starting a new school year.
I make my list from that, as this is where suggestions for different ways of doing things are given, and I get to make my personal choices about which way to choose to do them.
I also appreciate that the "purpose" of each box is usually described along with the rotation of skills throughout the unit. That helps me pick my materials better based on what each child needs (i.e. due to their writing ability, drawing ability, etc.). After you read through that though, this link may be helpful too:
